        Mrs Tan bought 4 times as many toy guns as teddy bears. She spent $1750 altogether. A toy gun cost $10 less than a teddy bear. The total cost of toy guns was $490 more than the total cost of teddy bears.

        a) How much did Mrs Tan spend on the teddy bears?
        b) How much did one teddy bear cost?

        Thanks.

          Hi

          Amount spent on teddy bears ----- 630

          Amount spent on toy guns ------ 1120

          Toy guns ------ 4 units

          Teddy bears ------ 1 unit

          1 unit of toy gun ------- 1120/4 ------- 280

          630 – 280 ------- 350

          1 unit of teddy bears costs $350 more because a teddy bear costs $10 more than a toy gun.

          Number of teddy bear ------- 350/10 ------ 35

          Cost of 1 teddy bear ------ 630/35 ------ 18

          Best wishes

              Hi

              She spent $1750 altogether. The total cost of toy guns was $490 more than the total cost of teddy bears.

              Amount spent on teddy bears ----- (1750 - 490)/2 = 630

              Amount spent on toy guns ----- 1750 - 630 = 1120

              Best wishes

                    Hi

                    Children : Adults --> 1:7 = 10u :70u
                    Boys :Girls : Men Women = 4u:6u:25u:45u
                    (Boys --> 2/5*10u = 4u, Men --> 5/14*70u = 25u)
                    .. with these, you should be able to complete the rest.

                    cheers.

                        Hi,

                        Can someone help me with the following question? Besides using the guess and check method, is there any other method that is less time consuming?

                        Mr Gopal purchased a certain number of shirts. He bought 11 small-sized shirts at $24 each and the large-sized shirts at $27 each. If the average cost of all the shirts was $25.35, how many large-sized shirts did he buy?

                        Thank you in advance.
