I sent my boy when he was p1. There are spelling, reading newspaper together as a weekly homework. My boy improved a lot from the reading.

which newspaper did they encourage kids to read ?

is it Zao Bao / Wan Bao, their China daily newspaper, or others ?

It consists of student essays, lots of small stories. Colourful, newspaper style. Not our kind of newspaper. Sorry, I forgot to mention.

Any parent can feedback which school’s standard is better? Molin or Jiang for K2 and P1 class?

my boy is with jiang since P1. I think he is doing well both in school and jiang. He is in the 3 hour class

You need to do some due diligent background homework comparison yourself, in order to determine which standard is higher. If Molin is doing what Jiang is doing, then they are on par, comparable standard. Otherwise, one is lower in standard than the other.

1) at Jiang Education centre

a)\tK1 level – kickstart Comprehension skills in class. This will follow up to K2 level.

at home, parents are expected to guide & help their child revise.
parents are given a colorful picture book (help child practise Comprehension skills at home), by asking K1 child (5 W):-

Who is in the picture ?
What is the main character doing ?
Where does the event take place ?
When did this event happen ?

What happen in the story plot ?

Why is the conclusion like that ?
does your child like the conclusion given in the picture ?
If not, can your child then use his own imagination, give his own unique version of conclusion ? (example: turn sad ending into a happy ending)

What is the morale of the story all about ?

objective:
to help your child lay a strong foundation early - in Chinese Oral communication.

b) teach children Chinese vocabulary in class.

parents to revise a list of Chinese vocab newly taught in class, for that week.

objective:
help to speed up the kid's recognition of Chinese vocab, prepare for P1.

c)\tK1 /K2 worksheets are bound into a booklet, for the entire Trimester (ie. 6 months or half year).

pupils practice handwriting in class, during lesson proper in class.
This is followed up by homework assignment each week -
practice neat, legible handwriting with the proper, correct sequence of Chinese strokes at home, under parents’ supervision. If handwriting is ugly (can't be read easily), child to rub off and rewrite again.

Next lesson, teacher check pupil's handwriting homework. If child forget to do, child need to re-do, then next lesson submit again.

objective:
to train the child due diligence, neat handwriting at home.
Preparing them for tingxie, when go P1.

at K2 level during tingxie, those who able to write neatly & properly, teacher will sieve them out, and display that child's piece of neat work along the corridoor outside K1 / K2 classroom, to demo as \"role model neat handwriting\" for others to follow suit.

note:
if your child going SAP schools, some Chinese teachers particular over children's handwriting. eg: Nan Hua expect kids to write Chinese strokes neatly.

For K2 level :-
-\tfirst 6 months teach han yu pin yin (in detail)

-\tsecond half of year, tingxie begin + revision of all han yu pin yin taught earlier + new ones ongoing coming in.

I just registered my K2 boy (Sun 12.50 - 2.20) and P2 girl (also Sun 12.50 - 3.50) at Jiang last month and they’re starting the class in Sep.

So just call and ask, slots may still be available. Course fees will be pro-rated (per term is 20 classes, holiday programmes are optional).

Keeping my figers crossed as this is my son’s first "academic" class and my daughter’s first 3-hour class!!

2013 Timetable just out !


note:-
current K1 kids (born 2007) moving up into 2013 K2 -
this year (2012) only got four K1 classes.

however come next year 2013, more new K2 classes are formed.
There is a greater variety of timeslot for parents to choose !
Total = eleven K2 classes (ie. expand by another 7 more)

reason:-
some parents didn't enrol their child in K1.
But come K2 - they become a bit \"kan cheong\", form more K2 classes.

there're also parents staying in Woodlands, but they travel all the way down here. It's not that there isn't Chinese enrichment centres in Woodlands / Admiralty. They have, example: Berries. However, these parents prefer to enrol their younger sibling(s) in our centre.

\"Jiang lao shi\" had been well established, with around 17 years history. Some children had grown up in this centre - from Primary school(s) all the way right up to Sec 4 GCE O level (highest level of Chinese.) There isn't any GCE \"A\" level Higher Chinese taught here. Due to familiarity & trust gained - some parents staying as far as in Woodlands decide to enrol their younger siblings back here.

duration: 1.5 hrs per lesson (for K1 / K2 level)
