Recently I increase to 500 for my php maid. After increment I realise effective next year new maid will have one day off weekly. Sigh! I think she will compare and negotiate with me again.

They ask for higher salary, more off days…

But they usually become more slack, standard of work dropped.
I’m also waiting for the day I can do without a maid.

Me too, I am waiting for the day my youngest go school and I don't have to depend on maid too. My current maid is ok and that was why I am willing to pay her 500. But like you said, after giving her the raise, she becomes more slack. But i have heard worst so I will still keep her.

I had one who worked for me abt 3 yrs. Salary was $460, renewal $480 (she didnt specify how much, or rather she doesnt mind). She has abt 2 yrs exp prior to working with me. But she was slack when she was serving her 2nd contract, so i "sack" her. Keep hiding in the room and the house is no longer as clean as before.

Current one, just join me for a month, has 3.5 yrs exp, asking $500, all Sundays off. While i was interviewing, maids are asking for around $550 to $600, with more than 5 yrs exp. Some even ask for all Sundays & PH off. I dont mind if they are very good, but, as you know, most ask for high salary but cant work.

just renew my maid’s contract. when she first came 2 yrs ago her salary was 340+20 (w/o off day).

during the renewal, she requested for $400 per mth with monthly off day.

for the weekly off day, if i’m not wrong only maids who are coming next yr or who is having their contract renew next yr then will hv. those existing already working in SG will not be affected.

You are correct. Those maids who are still serving out their contracts in 2013 will not be entitled to the weekly day off.
But if she's the type that wants weekly day off, she'll prob not be too happy about that.

Maids are getting more and more expansive! Govt should reduce their levy or remove it totally

As more and more maids know of the new dayoff and salary, many now chut pattern to get out of their existing agreement. Once the new scheme kicks in, don be surprise that more of those on the old scheme will request to go back. More headache ahead.
