I was speaking in terms of academic rigour ๐Ÿ™‚

      Hi Summer,
I see, but this is quite personal feel isn't it? If you think the academic rigour is not there, meaning you are not easily stressed at all or you are very clever in your studies and hence no problem with it. However, when you are talking about A levels in HC, its a different ball game altogether. One cannot compare O's with A's. For O's, no matter how stressful, you get your 4 years preparing for O's. But for A's, not to mention that the standard is much higher than O's, you only have 2 years to prepare for it. Therefore you prob feel the academic rigour in HC.

In fact, I know a Ms Lee from NYGS commenting that how come their (NYGS) results are not able to beat DHS's. Actually both these schools are very good schools, its up to its students to make it a good experience in the school they have chosen.

        Hi Augmum,

Have you cosidered letting your daughter do the \"Direct A level\" course in Dunman High?

I have a friend whose son enroled for this before the PSLE results were released (seemed like it did not matter).

Anyone has the thoughts on this alternative as compared to the 'O' level -> 'A' level route?

        Augmum:
        hi hugehugesmileyface and summer12345
Now, the results are all known..........
before that, i told myself not to think abt the choices till gal got her results(can buy time)
now, cannot don't think, have to make choices soon
still undecide whether to put DHS or NYGH as 1 st choice
asked my gal again, she said.......\" anything loh......both also good\"
        equal to no answer...... ๐Ÿ˜‰

          hi gohsoonk
u mean the IP (intergrated programme), whereby the pupils only need to do the A levels bypass the O level.
yes, DHS offers IP, and DHS oso has 1 class (i was told) still offering O level.
if DHS has no IP, definitely i would pick NYGH.

NOPE. definitely no regrets for me. i love dunman high. the education system is really good and they inculcate values in us. ๐Ÿ˜„ i never liked chinese and could not appreciate the chinese culture until i came to dunman high. ๐Ÿ˜„ i'm taking part in chinese stuff now like calligraphy. ๐Ÿ˜„ i think it will be the same for nanyang cos she is also a chinese school. ๐Ÿ˜„

267 is a really good score. ๐Ÿ˜„ and 258+2 she would be able to come into dunman high. i'm quite sure. ๐Ÿ˜„ but the psle score is just a rough thing because the subjects are different in secondary school. i'm year one now going on to year 2 and i had a few friends who didn't hit 260 i think they were like 258 or 257 after adding hcl, but they appeal and got in. ๐Ÿ˜„

for me i think that traveling is a relaxation for me. i live in pasir ris. i take an hour to come home and on the way home, i learn my ting xie or listen to music. ๐Ÿ˜„

after i received my unexpected results, my mum wanted me to go to rgs but i told her i wanted to stick to my decision and i'm definitely enjoying myself here. ๐Ÿ˜„

the learning environment here is really fun and an example would be april fools day. i think in 2008 they had this freazing thing they played in the canteen, you can find it on youtube and this year for april fools. aliens 'kidnapped' our tables, we sat on mats on the ground and spent our recess picnic style.

little things like that makes me love the school totally. ๐Ÿ˜„ not to mention the people here are nice. there is definitely un-nice people around like every school has though. ๐Ÿ˜„

But ehhh honestly I thought a parent will choose the 'better' school..
Btw can I ask why you didn't consider RGS?
              hi summer,
              oh, there's a gd question.
my niece is in rgs (nxt yr sec3) so i knew what is life in RGS is like and oso hub's contacts/associates have children in RGS, so got quite a few feedback stories. (not going to elaborate here).
gal was invited to \"tea with the principal\" before DSA exercise (invitation was send out by RGS's principal). after attending it, and oso coupled with niece's feedback , gal said to me
\"mummy, even if my results is gd, don't send me to RGS\".
after hearing that, i knew that my choice is only left with DHS or NYGH.

below is what i had posted under RGS thread for yr reading.
              Augmum:
yes.......this statement (in bold) is very very true for rgs.
my niece is currently in rgs sec 2.
she got rejected for almost all the choices of CCA.
luckily, she has got some grades in piano, so she could join the band, but it's something not in her likes list as the practices' hrs are long and tiring. heard quite a few of her friends also got into the CCA which they dislike.

as a result of the above, my gal got \"frighten off\" by her cousin.........as she is neither good in sports nor uni grp, so rgs would not be her choices of sch.

                Augmum,
i think since your gal has already decided on DHS, then DHS is it. She is the one going to spend time in school, so its better be a school that she loves going to. Furthermore, its nearer for your gal to go DHS right? I say, 1st choice = DHS!
yes, tree nymph, u're right since she is the one who is going there, and i think the environment in DHS definitely suits her better, there's no reason why i shd insist of changing her decision. i asked myself this Q, \" what if i decide for her and she is not happy in another sch?\"

i have a cousin in rgs. she used to be in rgs, sheโ€™s in uni now. she was from a chinese speaking family but since she entered rgs she didnโ€™t want to speak chinese, when my aunt asked her why, she said it was embarrassing to speak chinese there. until she came to uni and there are people from different backgrounds, only then did she start to converse in chinese again. i was shocked when i heard this. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

                        hi all

                        i've submitted the S1 form.........1st choice : DHS 2 nd choice : NYGH
these few days, while i was trying to convince myself to put DHS as 1st choice, on the other hand, my gal was trying to please me (i know she's trying to please me) by saying, \" if u want NYGH, then NYGH lorr......\"
in the end, i go with her heart, by saying, \"Confirmed! DHS as 1 st choice\", immediately i saw the gleam in her eyes.........
i hope to see the continunity gleams in the eyes down the 6 yrs......... ๐Ÿ˜„
