Though I do not really agree about the prestigious part (as compared to RJC or RI or HCI), I agree with mathsparks about the \"guinea pigs\" things. Don't think they have much experience running it.

Based on my friend's comments, he told me that his daughter complained that the IP course is quite haphazardly organized.

Yes, pls go in with eyes open. My opinion is that with 263, better go RI or HCI.

          Cheers
What about the students who go to NUS High and the new science and technology high school ?
They are more or less guinea pigs too right ?
These schools don't offer A levels or IB but their own exam right ?

You're right, they're guinea pigs too! But the BIG difference is that they dont take A levels (NUSH) and hence, can't be compared with the masses who take the A levels. If comparison can't be made, it's anyone's guess how selection for limited U places are done. However, seeing how NUSH is \"affiliated\" to NUS, I somehow get a feeling that those kids would get priority. :?

4 or 5 years ago when NUSH started, students opting to go there are probably guinea pigs. Today it is a different story. NUSH is starting to show a track record and that its students can compete with the best in maths and science. Fears about its diploma being internationally recognised has been addressed and the NUSH diploma is today recognised for entry to renown universities like Harvard, MIT. Getting into NUS is probably a certainty for its graduates particularly for the maths and science programs.

                    Full.Cream:
Assume RI and HCI COP are 271 and 270 resp.

                    If A (270) has chosen RI(1st) and HCI(2nd), and
B (270) has chosen HCI(1st) and RI(2nd) and there's only 1 slot left in HCI, it will surely go to B, right?
And A will prob be allocated a school from his 3rd onwards, right?
First of all, the COP are not fixed prior to the selection exercise. The COP is the points of the last person entering the school for that year & is only set after the posting exercise.

Both A and B are ranked first, A and B will not have same points because there are many decimals after their score. For example, even though both A and B may get their results shown as 270, in reality A may be 269.923456 and B may be 270.123456.

So, in this case, the one with 270.123456 will choose first before the one with 269.823456.

Hope this clear your doubt !

                      James,

you forgot about Nan Yang Girls High. Some bright girls will also choose this school. πŸ™‚

I don't like co-ed schools in Secondary schools because I'm afraid that those complicated BGR will distract the children from their studies. Thus, I don't think a lot of parents whose kids scored above 260 would put their kids in co-ed schools.

However, I'm not saying that NJC or any other co-ed schools are not good. I even put NJC for my DD's 3rd choice. :0

                      Good day!
Don't be too sure about this. I heard that there is a well known 'lovers' bridge' near Nayang Girls and another school which students from these 2 schools meet. 😐

If I charge every forummer for using the phrase \"guinea pigs\", I'll be laughing all the way to the kiasu bank.
