Choose Secondary school for 2010

My son got 256 with Merit for Tamil HMT. We were hoping for an IP / IB route so that he does not have to got thro' the O levels. Based on past experiences, is there any chance of getting into ACS(I) IB with 256?

Any other schools to recommend, most other IP schools are SAP schools with no Tamil. Please help :?: ...

I heard that last year's COP was 256 for IB programme. You wont know and cant choose thus it depends on this year's cohort and the no. of kids applying... no gurantee. If unsuccessful, they will post child to \"o\" level route, so its risky...

For boys, there are only 2 other IP schools offering tamil besides ACSI. They are NJC and NUS High. If COP for ACSI IB was 256, then both these schools had a higher COP last year - 259 for NJC and 260 for NUS High.

So I think for your son, there is little risk in applying for ACSI. If he cannot get in IB there - then unlikely that he will make it to the other 2 schools.

BTW, he can apply directly to NUS High via their website and not use up any of his 6 choice (that is if he is not against the idea of a maths and science specialisation).

Alternatively, he can try to get into a good O level school - example ACSI, SJI, Victoria and then try for IP at sec 3. IP Schools which admit at sec 3 are Victoria JC, Tamesek JC and NUS High. SJI may also be offering IP later on.

hi can somnebody help my brother ??

My nephew scored 256 . he did not take higher MT. we are agonising between choosing HCI or NJC as !st choice cause both school cop is 260 . HCI said he can do the appeal with his sop form now and couldnt commit if he stands a chance. ditto for NJC. should he go ahead and try for both as 1st and 2nd choice or should he gives up 1 and put down RV as his 2nd instead of 3rd choice ??? do you think he will stand a chance for HCI. He s keen to go for the IP prog. by not choosing RV as his 2nd choice , will he have a danger of not getting it if he fails to get into NJC or HCI.
Please someone , can you offer your very frank opinion ! Thanks

2)tanjong katong girls'
3)commonwealth sec
4)zhonghua sec
5)swiss cottage sec
6)temasak sec

Is these choices safe enough? will she be to get in to any of the choices ?

All the schools are good schools but all COP at 238 or higher except for TKG. For me i will put first two choices above 238, next 2 around 238 and last two below 238. To be safe. just my opinion

Need some kind person to advise how to fill in the S1 option form.

There is no option for selecting NORMAL stream in the S1 form. Does that mean if the COP for a Secondary School is higher than my son’s aggregrate score, they will not consider my son even if he wants to do a NORMAL stream instead of Express?

It says you must put in all 6 choices and cannot leave any choices out. Is this correct?

My son got 251 for his psle… +1 for hmt. He wants to go to Catholic High but it’s very far from our home. I would prefer he go to Nan Hua which is near to our house. Can anyone provide information on the school culture etc of these two schools? Is it better for him to go to a boys’ school or a mixed school?

My son scored 241. 1st choice: TKSS, hopefully he can get in so no more headache.

He is above average in English and only average in Chinese so to go to a SAP school that is more focus in Chinese i’m afraid he might end up not doing well in both languages.

My son is in Sec 2 TKSS this year. Chinese is his weakest subject but amazingly with his teacher's encouragement, he passed this year, without any tuition! He enjoys the school and the teachers are very supportive.
