It is in their mindset or their parent's. Also science is a popular combination at JC level because it allows you to venture into almost all disciplines in the uni. So if one wants to do science and is undecided as to what sciences to do, it is better to take 3 sciences at years 3&4 to know one's aptitude and interest.[/quote]Yup, Mandymummy, this is what i am saying....... :hi5:
Why is it that triple sciences still a popular choice, is it because of the mindset that those who are taking triple sciences are the better ones?justsay:

Triple Sc combi is still a popular choice in many schools for Y3 – including the “good” IP sch.
Do you know how many Y3 triple Sc classes does the P plan to limit?
I do know of some of my dd's friend chose not because they want it but rather their parents wanted it. -
Is there Econs at O level?
-
So what are the advantages of limiting or totally phasing out triple sciences at O level?
Why isn’t there any faculty in U that requires biology at H2 level as a prerequisite? -
WeiHan:
According to P, RV strongly encourages students to take Chem as one of the Sc subjects which allows them to do medicine in U too, if they want to (?!?)So what are the advantages of limiting or totally phasing out triple sciences at O level?

I am very surprised that NUS (medicine) would take in a student who did Chem but not bio.
I think somebody has mentioned that due to A level requirement on the contrasting subject, the 3rd Sc subject becomes \"reductant\" in the calculating of scores. -
starlight1968sg:
Most, if not all the schools, including neighbourhood schools have chemistry as compulsory subject since many years back, nothing new for this.

Just for sharing, the course pre-requisites of NUS is given below. There is no mandatory requirement for Bio at A level even for Medicine and Bioengineering.

I heard the P mentioned something like if you don't do Bio at A level, you can just pick up any Bio 101 textbook to study and you will be ok. But for Chem, if your foundation is no good, you will suffer. -

Thanks for sharing. Now I understand. Just noticed that there is another \"abitkiasu\" parent in a different thread.
Oh yes...... RV computation of GPA is certainly more fair to pupils compared to DHS.A Bit Kiasu:
Do you mind to explain why? Is RV method of calculating GPA \"better\" compared to other schools? How do other schools calculate their GPA?
RGS is another IP sch having a fair GPA computation.
In DHS, the max of GPA obtained is only 4.0 even for marks above 85.
And there is no \" in - between\" scale for A 1 and A2 or B3 and B4, etc...
Hence, can u imagine the frustration of pupils getting a X9 marks ??
a difference of only 1 mark ( or 1/2 mark as recently they do roundup), But the drop of GPA is 0.8
Also, there is no difference in scoring X0 and X9 marks..... :siao: .
U can read more abt our ranting in DHS thread here :nunchuk:

Is there Econs at O level?
Yes, there is Economics 2284.

MandyMummy:
It is offered but it seems that it is not a common O level subject. Geography, History, Literature are more often offered than Economics. I wonder why.WeiHan:
