• RE: Raffles Institution (Year 1-4)

I understand that the JIP runs from Thursday 14 Jan 2016 to Wed 27 Jan 2016. Usually, alll the compulsory talks and programs will be in the AM while the PM is for CCA trials and electives.

I only know that if your child does not intend to continue his/her CCA in Year 5 they have to let the school know especially for the sports CCA.

S1234567B is yr child ic. P stands for parent

I logged on just after I saw your post morning. My eyes must be really bad! I'll have another look later.

      Later -
Looked again - still don't see it! Under what menu item is it hiding?

The above message is for class of 2016 (year 5 in 2015 and year 6 in 2016). The JIP should be for class of 2017 (Year 5 in 2016 and Year 6 in 2017). I don't think the JIP announcement is out yet.

      Hi,

      Are textbooks necessary for JCs?
Do your children bring laptops to JC often?
I hvnt gotten a laptop for my son yet. He is still using an old clunky one which he rarely brings to sec sch. Am thinkg if I shld invest in a lighter one for him.
Depending on what subjects he takes. Some subjects require textbooks, but most don't. Most JCs give comprehensive notes that are even better than textbooks as they are customised for the Singapore/Cambridge GCE A levels.

Students generally need laptops for Project Work. They may need to bring to school for group work.

Those may have been posted into the school rather than DSAed in. I have heard of some DHS students moving over to VJC.

Also there are a few cases of RGS girls moving to HCI because they want to take triple sciences which RI does not offer.

    • RE: Appeal Secondary One Posting

Appeals for review of PSLE results must be submitted on an official appeal form thru the school to a SEAB. There is no limit to the number of subjects you wish to review. However your appeal must be supported by the school (Principal) and the cost is about $4X (??) per subject. Outcome known in mid Dec.

Yes, a testimonial was given at the end of Year 4. But that's probably because the girls school is independent from the boys school and this testimonial is from the girls school.

Thank you for the clarification, jtoh.

Just wondering, for IP schools like RI, does the Y6 testimonial capture achievements from Y3/4 on top of Y5/6? Anyone with any past experience to share?

I'm asking as my dd has an excellent Y4 testimonial and it feels like a real waste if this is not going to be captured in any way in the Y6 one, since the IP programme is a continuous 6 year programme. Her JC testimonial is likely to be much less stellar due to fewer opportunities to shine ...

      Thanks. 😄
The year 5-6 testimonial only captures achievements from the date they are admitted to year 5 till end of year 6. So activities and achievements from years 3&4 will not be in the testimonial. However there should be a testimonial for RI boys at year 4 for that purpose.

    • RE: Travel: New Zealand

Hi, I’m thinking of a self drive trip from Auckland to Wellington and then taking the Northern Explorer train back up to Auckland. Has anybody travelled on the Northern Explorer? Any suggestions and/or feedback is appreciated. Thanks.
Anyone here knows when the PW result be out ?

I think it is together with A Level results. Early March.

This is what my dd told me too.

She will be taking her PW paper this year so her results will be out with next year's A level results.
PW results will not be released together with A level results. It is usually released in April, I think.
