Choose Secondary school for 2010
-
Hi2mom, after IP, they will take A level or IB. With that, they can proceed to Uni.
IP learning process is fun and can really triggle your child's independent, creative, courage and team work. There are many projects, research and presentation to do, for all subjects.

I think the IP route is generally considered the better learning experience for the child.
However there are other factors as well to consider. One should also consider if the IP school that the child is able to gain admission to is suitable for him/her.
For example, a child with PSLE score of 254 can only get into a SAP IP school. If chinese is not a easy subject for the child, then I think he/she is better off going to a non IP school that had produced outstanding O level results. The child has to spent 6 years in this IP school and he/she may not enjoy the time there. -
:thankyou:
Thanks to mathsparks, daisyt and traineeks for their opinions. I've heard that if you are chosen for NUS, you must go there despite other schools that have chosen you. Is that right? What are the advantages of NUS?
And if you are given choices as below, in which order would you choose for your child/children?:
1. NUS
2. RGS/RI
3. HCI
4. NJC
5. ACS

Hi2mom:
NUSH is good choice if your kid has strong inclination and liking for math and science. School has strong achievements in recent years and yet students appear to be enjoying themselves. I think their flexible approach and modular system has a part to play. One key advantage is that they do not have to sit for A levels. More time in year 5 for research instead.:thankyou:

Hi2mom:
This is an impossible set of choices. How can a child who can go to RGS, also go to RI? Or to HCI? Or ACS? Unless mixed gender, ah?:

hmmm... my daughter is exempted from mother tongue, so i guess that's why she hasn't get the letter about applying for 3rd mother tongue eventhough her psle aggregate score is above 250.
she is taking chinese tuition twice a week at home, but her standard is only around primary 5. Do you suggest she apply for mother tongue when she enters sec school?...or not? -
Hi2mom:
That's up to you as a parent and what your child wants to do, right? If I'm not mistaken, once MOE grants exemption, it's all the way to A-levels (or rather \"for life\"), right?hmmm... my daughter is exempted from mother tongue, so i guess that's why she hasn't get the letter about applying for 3rd mother tongue eventhough her psle aggregate score is above 250.
