When you give maid off day, what time she must come back home ? Thank alot.

Maid goes out at about 10 am, after making sure all of us ate our breakfast. She will also bath one of my 2 kids to help me out. Then at about 9 am she will go bath and get ready to go out. Previously she used to come back by about 8.30 pm. Nowadays with my 2nd one I requested her to come back earlier since the baby sleeps early. So she comes back by about 8 pm. On \"disaster days\" when me/hubby could not quite handle she will help us to tidy up and pick up the \"tail ends\". So usually by early evening time we will start to look forward to her coming back! 😓

        Hi all,

I’ve got a question to ask. My maid just got her full salary recently and I am thinking of opening a POSB FDW bank account for her so that I can deposit her salary into the account instead of her keeping so much cash at home.

I am just wondering whether I should let her keep the ATM card whilst I keep the bank book or should I be keeping both?

        TIA!

If it is her salary and her bank account then she should be holding both unless she asks you to look after it to stop her from spending the monety.

We recently opened the POSB WP account for our maid, too. It is her own account, she keeps the passbook and the ATM. If balance falls below $500, she will be charged $2 per month. Free 4x ATM withdrawal per month. We transfer the $$ to her account every month - good for record keeping in the event of dispute.

As for the POSB FDW account, it is compulsary for the Employer to have a standing instruction to transfer the $$ to their account every month. This may be the joint account and unlimited ATM withdrawal. However, I dislike the standing instruction as my maid goes for paid home leave every year, but when she does that I will withheld that month’s salary.

              Thanks for all the replies.

Yeah, I was wondering about the FDW account, whether it is compulsory to have a standing instructions. Me too doesn’t like to have auto giro deduction for the salary. Will probably opt for the WP account then.

I have friends who keep their maid’s ATM and bank book in the hope of detering them from running away. I would probably just keep the bank book so that I can update the balance everytime after I transfer the money to her account.

Frankly, this was the practise for my 2 older maids. For the new, we were told by agent that based on guideline, the maid no longer need to have joint account with employer. The recommendation is for employer to transfer the $ directly to their account.

Actually I have never keep money or transfer money to the maid. I pay them cash and they sign on my record. I don’t bother what they do with their money.

Me too don’t hold the maid’s passbook or atm card. Once paid, they sign, that’s it. So long as they can handle money. But for my PIL’s maid, it seems she is too innocent the type who might get bullied by other maids and kerna asked to borrow money. In this case, I have seriously asked my PIL to consider holding on to her passbook for her own good…

I will let them sign on the agent piece of document for their salary. I do not bother how they spend their money.

I just realised that to open an account for WP holder, you need to have a POSB corporate current account and I don’t like the idea of compulsory auto transfer of salary from my account to her account if I open the FDW account for her. Looks like I am with no choice but to give cash afterall!

She doesn’t want off days so I am also helping to remit money to her home town using this online pay2home service and I will give her the balance of her salary and make her sign on the document. This is the first month she got her salary and hope this can work.
