      msbaa:
      Hello Everyone

I met a private tutor for my p5 girl who offered an intensive 1 to 1 coaching for 3 months (math & science total 48hrs). The rate quoted was $180 per hour. Upon completion of this 3 months intensive coaching she will join the group at $80 per hr. Is this the normal going rate for private tuition?

FYI my girl is an average girl but fared badly this year in CA1 & SA1.

Appreciate your comments and welcome any recommendation for tutors/enrichment classes.

      Thanks.
$180/hr is certainly not the \"normal going rate\". Tutors have to be ethical as well. My daughter had a tutor, Ms Liu, who charged only in the range of $35-$40/hr for primary school level subjects and she was already able to produce results! My daughter did so well in her PSLE that even I was stunned! With Ms Liu's help, she scored 'A' for English, Chinese and Science. If you want, you can contact her at 97944428. Hope I helped 🙂

wow $180/hr is exorbitant!! how would any parent want to pay for that??

i dun go for fancy / branded tutors or centres… most impt is my dc likes and understands what the teacher is talking about…

parents, i would rather u stick to a responsible tutor who can commit for long term, like mine already 4yrs… it is not good to change tutors regularly…

My friend is paying $70/hr. She says that the tutor is a JC teacher. Is this the standard rate?

I think $50/hr is the standard rate.

            Hi,

Is there any recommendations for Secondary 3 (in 2013) Higher Chinese Tutors? And, what are some good tutoring agencies I can consider? My daughter is weak in Compre, limited vocabulary… Please help!

You r lucky! Lately, just found a female tutor , she is a school release teacher that charge $50/ hr. . . When she step into the room, she will set her iPhone timer! She is not even to spare a mins , she can stop the question half way when the timer ring. . My girl is quite unhappy of her attitude . . . Haiz it just our luck! Spent so much and get this type of tutor! 😢

$50/hr and goes thru question halfway?? what's that? i dun think any parents here will agree..

$180 per hour to pay for tuition fee is quite outrageous. Hiring tutors is quite like employing domestic maids. You need a bit of luck. 🙂 You read all their bio-datas, you think they look ok (so maybe can be good) but you will never know for sure how effective or commited they are and if your child can 'connect'. The recent phy/chem tutor i had for my ds didn't go too well. Keep changing dates lately and just when it is my ds last science paper tmrw, tells me he can't come when initially he had agreed to. So, what can i do? I will have to scout around before year's end for another tutor for ds O level next year. Hopefully we will get lucky.

Tuition this kind of thing, sometime our children don’t have question then end early, got question then give us more time. This is give and take what.
Like that then if got question but that day no tuition then she won’t answer? That’s so calculative.
Under normal school days even if no tuition, if we got questions of course must ask tutor, if not hire them for what.[/quote]if no tuition, i dun really bother the tutor unless necessary... cos i do self coach my kids... not that i'm highly educated, i just need to go thru the text all over again n i really spend time on it...

but come back again... tutors should not be too particular about the time, as in, not expecting them to stay back every lesson, but just to finish the question is not too much to ask for... pls dun treat it just like a job, they should hv the passion to teach...
