I discovered a tuition centre tutor lying that he is an ex-moe jc teacher when he doesn't even have an NIE certificate. this is absurd. moe doesn't check on tuition centers?

jc teacher does not need nie cert i think...

the nie also trains teachers for pri and sec... most jc and poly and ite teachers are professionals in the working field...

u can check this thru the moe website... i read about this some time ago...

All JC teachers NEED to go through NIE training. They are usually in the Secondary/JC tracks under the post-graduate diploma course, which means most of them already had a degree before joining NIE/MOE. I know this because I'm a geography lecturer in a JC.

    • RE: How much would you pay for your child's enrichment courses?

I had the tutor come to my place and it’s all worth it. My children are more willing to learn and dare to ask questions during one-to-one tutoring. And I pay only $35/hr.

    • RE: All About Market Rates of Private Tutors

I paid $35 for P1-3 EMSC, and $40 for P4-6 EMSC. And all of it under the same tutor.

No, I don’t allow them to play any games or even watch TV

    • RE: does your child talk A LOT?

Yes, my youngest is too talkative for his own good. He’s always talking to his sister when he should be doing his work, sometimes during tuition too. I seriously don’t know what to do with him.

I don’t believe in corporal punishment.

    • RE: Is it true that some JC's resources are not enough?

Yes, it’s true, which is why it’s better to get tuition outside.

    • RE: * Millennia Institute (MI)

The reality is that, each year, only 30% of Millenia Institute students get into local universities. But good news is, they accept students who fail their ‘O’ level Math, but pass their English.

    • RE: When do you start looking for tuition teachers?

Do you start looking for tutors for your child at the beginning of the year, or after tests results come back, or before a major exam?

At the beginning of the year, but I do know of parents who only start to look for tutors when it's already very close to the 'O' or 'A' levels. It's called the last-minute Buddha foot hugging syndrome.

My friend is paying $70/hr. She says that the tutor is a JC teacher. Is this the standard rate?

I think $50/hr is the standard rate.
