thanks hnghng for the info!
how old are your sons? how long have they been attending the school? -
My 1st boy next yrs will be P1. I send him to cc there when he only 22 mths old, bcau i give birth my 2nd boy
And 2nd boy at the cc when he 23 mths old. Next yrs will be K1. -
That’s great age difference… just nice.
My boy is turning 24 mths in 2 weeks time, and still a little shy with strangers. Staying home with grandma doesn’t improve his language much too. He is only speaking in two words now, can’t form sentences yet. Would like to find a warm, conducive environment that he can start off with half day, and also to let grandma have some rest time (he is super active baby at home).
Is Pebble non-aircon classrooms? How’s the chinese language in school? does it do more play-based activities, and balance academic studies as well? Liked your comment about the teachers being responsible. I think teachers play a GREAT part, especially at young age of 2, really need teachers who are committed and loving. -
hi Dee,
Not sure if you want to consider Yuquan school. They have preschool for kids. My son is attending holiday class there - find the staff quite friendly, and the preschool environment nice and cosy.
Understood from a friend whose kids at the yq childcare that her kids chinese improved greatly since being there - cos there is strong emphasis on chinese (50% Eng/CH);
It’s at Guillemard Road, at the old Singapore badminton hall. The offside is that there is a spa there - but honestly, the school is a bit far away from the spa. -
Hi hquek,
thanks for your recommendation! Actually i’ve past by the building last weekend and saw the huge poster. It just slipped my mind to check that out. And it’s really very near my house.
my boy’s exposed to main english speaking at home, which could be a good idea to try Yuquan. Will drop by for a visit soon… I hope space is available though.
thanks much! -
Yes, is a non-air con classroom. But sometimes they will on the air-con for them (for i know is only for K1 & K2) to sleeping when "super hot day".
They have 2 chinese teacher from China & 1 teacher from Malaysia. 3 English Teacher are local. And few assistant (i don’t know how many but some are partimes staffs). 1 chinese cook & 1 Malay assistant help cleaning the cc. -
Thanks Hnghng! will do my rounds of visits to the few schools over the next few weeks. planning to send my son to school after the CNY.. which i think i'm a little late in deciding already..

I speak to my older one half half and he turn out to be super pro English...and reject chinese. I'm speaking to younger one in chinese mainly and he's ok in conversing in chinese, english still in process of picking up.
I'm not speaking for YQ preschool, but I did think of sending my kids there for the chinese emphasis (only thing that stopped me was that they are very well adjusted in their kindy, I don't want to move them). Anyway, they attend normal kindy - and turn out to be more english oriented.
Anyway, Guillermard road is a new setup, I think they are hungry for biz - should still have space. Be prepared there may be some hardsell (I usually hate, but endured to try out the holiday class). -
Hey hquek,
Do you stay around this area too? Which kindy is your sons attending?
As per my posting under the yuquan thread, yea, I listened to her ‘selling’ for almost 45 min. They currently only have 2 students in the PG class, and probably more attention will be given to each kid. but the fees are pretty high, which is another consideration.
I’m not sure if I want to start him so young at yuquan, it might be not necessary to spend that fee as at playgroup, as my objective is more of letting him soclialise, learn some basic phonics/ gross/fine motor skills.
The other schools I’m looking at is Little Skool House at mountbatten, which is also very new, great environment, and reasonably priced.
As for Schoolhouse by the bay, I wasn’t very happy with what I saw for one of the teachers, who takes care of the 29mths and above class. The sulk on her face, made me very hesitant, plus some comments I heard from mummies about the not-so-good teachers for the 29 mths group.
Still trying to do a visit to Cherie Hearts Bournemouth Road. Not much feedback about this school, so got to check it out myself. -
