Hi Caroline pal,Monster Mummy:
The only option is creative writing class. If not you can let him wait till P1 to go into PEP. After ICR programme, you got a choice to let him continue the writing class or withdraw him from center and look around programme to prepare him for P1.
Hi Monster Mummy, my son has benefited from ICR. He can read pretty well and do spelling with ease. Now he (K2) is in creative writing. My objectives to put him in ICR is to learn phonics & read. So all met. And when he goes to P1, I am thinking of stopping ICR, let him learn his English in school. What does PEP work on? Is this for students who are weak in English? What PEP do that Pri school don't? I am not sure if I should let him continue with PEP. Please advice or enlighten me.
I believed that we are in the same situation with same objective on sending the children to ICR. PEP work like stellar programme like student are taught on thinking skills and creative such as writing poems and it does not really follow like school is more like an enrichment programme. I feel for my standpoint of view, this programme is less stressful for kid compared to ICR. My son stay there for 2 years before I withdraw him because he need to learn in depth for his comprehension. You can talk to the centre admin staff and understand more as well as requesting to look at some materials before decide whether to let him continue. -
Thanks Monster Munmy. I will speak to his current teacher in ICR & the admin. Actually I want to free up his time so that he have more play time. See how things goes n give him tutiton lessons if he needs it later in P3 or so.

I think that ICR main objective is for children to be able to read. If you need to free up his time during this period, teach him basic grammar rule. -
Hi Mummies,
May I know what is the best age to start ICR ?
My boy is turning 3 in Dec., and I understand they have a Little Bear Club for kids of his age. Is it appropriate for him to start now ? -
Any latest feedback available about ‘I can Read’ at Rivervale mall??
I want to send my kid (2009 born) for phonics class here. Before that someone please let me know if the center is actually good or kindly suggest some other centres somewhree in sengkang/punggol area for phonics classes for 4 yrs olds.
Thanks -
Is skipping book/s ever happened in ICR level? The teacher suggested to skip book/s and promote my DS to other class with tougher book because he has shown restlessness after completing his ‘task’ with his group. She commented he is too advanced in the class and yet he is the youngest. He is currently in book 3.

I have never encountered but ultimately it will still depend on teacher's recommendation. -

If my DS didn’t show sign of restlessness, I wouldn’t be bother at all. Hopefully the teacher can keep him occupied throughout the lessons. -

I put my kids in ICR at Rivervale Mall before they were 4yrs old. To me, the teachers who taught my kids are good. I am happy with my elder kid who can read pretty well before age of 5. However, parents need to play an important role here - assist your kid to do the assigned homework diligently, patiently and consistently. I dont think you can just leave all to the ICR teachers (it is just once a week for 1.5hr). So my youngest is doing TCS now and embarking on the proven ICR program soon.Any latest feedback available about 'I can Read' at Rivervale mall??

I agreed because previously my child also has problem until I enforce them to revise every week after classes. It really need hard work to see the result. I would said that their ICR programme especially it work for my children.
