I Can Read - Discussion

Is skipping book/s ever happened in ICR level? The teacher suggested to skip book/s and promote my DS to other class with tougher book because he has shown restlessness after completing his ‘task’ with his group. She commented he is too advanced in the class and yet he is the youngest. He is currently in book 3.

I have never encountered but ultimately it will still depend on teacher's recommendation. -

If my DS didn’t show sign of restlessness, I wouldn’t be bother at all. Hopefully the teacher can keep him occupied throughout the lessons. -

I put my kids in ICR at Rivervale Mall before they were 4yrs old. To me, the teachers who taught my kids are good. I am happy with my elder kid who can read pretty well before age of 5. However, parents need to play an important role here - assist your kid to do the assigned homework diligently, patiently and consistently. I dont think you can just leave all to the ICR teachers (it is just once a week for 1.5hr). So my youngest is doing TCS now and embarking on the proven ICR program soon.Any latest feedback available about 'I can Read' at Rivervale mall??
I want to send my kid (2009 born) for phonics class here. Before that someone please let me know if the center is actually good or kindly suggest some other centres somewhree in sengkang/punggol area for phonics classes for 4 yrs olds.
Thanks -

I agreed because previously my child also has problem until I enforce them to revise every week after classes. It really need hard work to see the result. I would said that their ICR programme especially it work for my children.

Kitty:
Hi Kitty,Hi Mummies,
May I know what is the best age to start ICR ?
My boy is turning 3 in Dec., and I understand they have a Little Bear Club for kids of his age. Is it appropriate for him to start now ?
I think it all depends on whether your child's preschool teaches him phonics and sound blending. If the preschool teaches phonics him phonics in Nursery then I don't see any benefits in sending your child to Little Bear Club. You can consider to send him direct to ICR programme when your preschool starts him off with sound blending when he is in K1.
You can consider Little Bear Club only if your preschool did not expose him to phonics. -
Hi Kitty
I agree with hellokittyspore, I sent my DS to ICR when he was in N1. The school he went did not teach him much on phonics. -

Even though school teach phonics, yet the Teacher who did assessment might place them subject they view the child level. Example for my boy who did phonics in another centre and complete the phonics programme. He is still place in PRP coming to 4 to 5 months Before he progress to ICR programme.Hi Kitty

Hi,
My DS (K2 going P1) needs to improve in his English reading. Which is more suitable - I Can Read or LCentral? Or any other centres out there?
Anyone has experience with LCentral (Tampines) and I Can Read (White Sands)? Would really appreciate if you could share your experiences.
TIA.
