      Hi Wishace

My P5 DS attended Wang Lao shi at Eastgate till Sept this year for a total of 9 months. You can read my comments posted under Languages at Wang Lao Shi @ Eastgate Page 3. I share the same sentiments; the teacher he had didn’t care to feedback at all. Results was worse than when I was coaching him myself. During the period he was attending Enrichment classes at Wang, I continued to put in time at home to teach him. So I can understand your disappointment.

I have enquired at Xuelin but not going to register him there simply because it is expensive and there isn’t much feedback about the branch @ 112 Katong. The one in Bukit Timah seems popular though.

I am planning to send him to Writing and Oral class at either Chapter One (人之初)at MP Central or Forever Education(永恒语文学校)at Tembeling. The latter was formerly located at the old Katong Mall. I have decided to continue to coach him on paper 2 myself.

Appreciate feedback from anyone who has experience with Chapter One or Forever Education . Thanks

Hi!happy74, just want to share my comment,

i enrolled my dd since she was in K1 with Hua Cheng Bukit Timah, now she is in K2 ,i do feel that she has more confident in Speaking Chinese, and she do recognise alot of vocab that make her can read a story book in P1 level, even she now can manage to read her P1 cousins textbook .Why i put her to a tuition centre since she is young, i hope she read more and fast , after a year in Hua Cheng i can see the results. I’m quite happy with that!!!Honestly speaking, i never try Jiang or Berries b4, becos hua cheng bukit timah is the closer tuition centre to my place. As the principal(Miss. Kuang ) explains to me how does the centre work with my dd. They based on story teaching in order to enhance my dd the ability of understanding and also the ability conversation after every story. Now my dd do have alot of ideas and her opinions to everything. I know my dd is very lazy in chinese writing, but my dd started motivative in learning spelling for K2,and she wanted to get a sticker in what she did and tried hard by her ownself. From the spelling test, i can see her foundation is there. and in the lesson there are having alot of games to guide them in learning, that’s why she enjoys her lesson at Hua Cheng. She even tell me learning chinese is fun and interesting. overall, i’m happy with this centre so far.

          Hi sweetiegalaxy,

          Apologies for my late reply...

Yes my ds is still with yang laoshi attending enrichment. Compo starts in p2 if I'm not wrong. He is still enjoying going to the classes; definitely recognizing more words, he has no problems reading the passages on the worksheets given by e teacher, and hanyu pinyin seemingly got better...

Over here, they are more acadamically focused & importantly, I like it that they conduct the classed in small groups so the children get more attention.

I'm so sorry I wasn't earlier in replying to your post, hope I'm not too late... 🙂

                hi mummymama,

Thanks for the feedback. I have enrolled for the Compo term 1. I heard from my eldest, their compo include compre as well. i am still considering the enrichment as i already put the deposit at Tien Hsia. Next year my gal is taking Higher Mother Tongue, i dunno if YLS got teach HCL(she told me they learn both books, but i wonder how they got time to study 2 textbooks in 2hrs). Any clue, Mummy ? Thanks.

                  Hi sweetiegalaxy,

I'm afraid I can't help you with dat... Cos my ds is only starting p1 next year... Haha... From what I heard, e standard at YLS is higher than Tien Hsia. Go find out from e principal, she's friendly 🙂

                      lgerline:
My son is in N2 berries and has been doing pretty well. During one of the makeup lesson (1-1 teaching), the teacher let him read K1 book and he was able to read well. I have been reading to him every night, both English & Chinese so I know his standard well enough. I am thinking of discontinue Chinese lesson next yr and let him spend time on other area like music or speech/drama(can only afford 1 -1.5hr on a Sunday). Should I continue with berries or my daily reading is sufficient? Any comment is welcome. :thankyou:

Personally, I find that Berries' course notes keep on repeating words that have been taught previously. My DS is quite fast in his learning and word recognition, he find the lesson bored after the second term. I have terminated his lesson since then. I find that if you were to coach him yourselves, you can provide personalized teaching based on your child's capabilities.

I won’t try Jiang, just simply becos the bigger class size and long hour’s class of 3 hours. Its’ really tough espcially for lower primary.
