Comparing Enrichment Programme versus Private Tutor

In group, the child has faced challenge and that will push him/her to be better…That’s why i send my girl to group. But not too big group…5/6 max.

That's true. My son attended group for English...and that peer pressure pushed him to work harder. He couldn't lose face in front of the others. When he slacked a little, the others will have to wait and that is embarrassing.
But for Chinese and science, he needed that 1–1. Group tuition has its advantages but person delivering must have skill to do so. -
Actually I will think that instead of comparing between Group and Private tuition. What's most important is the teaching style of the tutor. I send my kids for group tuition at Future Perfect and I was very amazed with their teaching style. My girl actually learn through a method, where she takes on the role of a teacher in class. Very efficient and interactive way to learn.

Language can be done both ways. Certain part or subjects could be done better with 1-1 attention, certain exercises that do not require attention is better done in group and compare works with one another. Language learning may be a boring exercise for some, peer pressure would push the student to do something and produce his/her work on the pot. Avoid hiring a tutor to baby sit with the student just to do home works, and the tutor would feel uncomfortable also, as there are always some skills and techniques to learn that no textbook can train for the subject concerned.
It is always beneficial to put one in a group outside to know new friends and socialise while learning something without pressure. Many students seem to enjoy it, so long as the tutor is skilful enough to enliven the learning session, keep students busy and interested, see improvement day by day. In Hong Kong and Taiwan, the tuition class can be as big as lecture, all are going after the method, technique and teaching style of highly-skilled tutor. -

I prefer group as they will learn more from other students.

It really depends how the lesson is delivered...I read earlier post here and agree with it. If it is like lecture style, there is no chance of knowing how each student fares. As for group tuition, my son was pressured to work harder and that is healthy competition. At sec 1, he is continuing with group tuition for Math. -
Sometimes I feel it goes down too to the chemistry between the child and the teacher. My P5 DD1 has been with the same tuition centre since P4 for Maths and continues this year with the same teacher. T is strict and v particular about working and handwriting. DD1 is motivated because T's explanation is clear and probably is a smaller class (presently 10 in this class) compares to her class in the school, she looks forward to going for class lesson every Saturday

:rahrah: agreed too! I send my children to SmartLab Tuition in Bishan. They learnt a lot from group tuition and one of my child's school teacher still compliment him for being able to answer his question while his classmates failed the attempts! :xedfingers:
Ya Champion, sometimes the Chemistry between the teacher and student is also important..
