The question we should be asking is not why our policy makers are embarking on what appears to be a population ponzi scheme for the sake of economic growth.

The question we should be asking is what will we have our policy makers do in the face of other people (ie. our neighbours and the other economic powers whether international or regional) embarking on what appears to be a population ponzi scheme for the sake of their economic growth. If not this, then what?

She came her, few mths later, bought HDB 4 room flat. Few months later she rent a master-bed room in condo. Rent out her 4-rm flat. She is a study-mama, husband doing china business.
Good that now PRs can't rent out their HDB flats :rahrah:

I don't like to see this small little dot clustered with tall buildings.....

I have this simple thoughts :

when Singapore was poor, we had to sell away Christmas Island....

Now I am sure we can afford to buy back Christmas Island.....

          Have it redevelop....

I do not mind retiring there.....this is my wish šŸ˜‰
You know, I'm not cynical about their intentions. The MIW crafting these policies will unlikely personally benefit much from it, as they will be deep into their 70s/80s by the time it comes around.

            Really?
The supposed economic benefits equals GDP growth which will translate into fat bonuses for those whose financial rewards are tied to GDP growth?

Actually, many MPs are multi-taskers with numerous directorship or interest in various business is it not?
And the suggestion is.....? All elected to parliament quit their day jobs? then how will they know what a working man's or businessman's perspective is?

Sorry, I'm not getting drawn into that debate. I'm a reasonably analytical guy, and I believe this to be true. Even the WP have said that the PAP have the interest of the nation at heart, so I have very little time for cynical views in this regard. You are of course, free to form your own view.
Perhaps because there was a previously a GDP Bonus which pays huge bonuses to top civil servants in good times, that is why it has attracted attention as to whether policy making has been centered on growing certain GDP components to achieve high GDP which in turn would translate into higher GDP Bonus. I believe there was a review done on this and the possibility of abuse has been reduced by the National Bonus which rely lesser on purely looking at GDP to justify huge bonuses. A lot of feedback on this in parliament so it is easy to form a view. šŸ˜‚

No. MOP means you cannot sell within that period.

HDB flat owner must stay in the flat unless exceptional cases (need approval by HDB).

Rent out room is okay but cannot rent out the whole flat. Owner MUST occupy it.

They can buy as many private properties as they like, but own must stay in the HDB flat. This is HDB rule.

know of people around me (PR colleagues) circumventing that rule by locking up 1 room (so they are \"not\" renting out whole unit) and stay in private condo or at their own home in JB...

We shd do our duty as vigilance citizens and report to HDB/authorities for the sake of fellow countryman hunting for a flat.. these foreigners are driving up the flat prices..

HDB will have a way to investigate against those who flout the rules.
HDB should setup a department like those traffic wardens (for illegal parking) and will keep spot check those renting unit every night.

So actually the weakest link is allowing 1 of the PR couple to convert to SCs. All the cooling measures or whatever other measures will not work on these people who have the intention of abusing the system and cash in on the benefits. That's why they should not allow only 1 spouse to convert. Want to convert both must convert together.
Ya... I also agree that the whole family should convert to citizen. Else don't give. Doesn't make sense 1 is a SC and the rest are PRs as a family

I can bear with the overcrowding, the competition, the uncouth behaviour, the bad breathe and the arm-pit smell.... I only worry what I feared most would come true.....

We embrace savvy people who come here during the good times not because they want to be citizens or have intention to call Singapore their home.

They have no qualms in circumventing the requirements to qualify as citizens, as PRs. They are out to reap maximum gains for themselves and make a quick exit with their loot when times are bad.

What would happen to our country, our economy and most importantly our people? I don't worry about the trees I grow in my garden that started out as seedlings. I am just worried about how the mature trees that I transplanted in my garden fare when I have continuous stormy days knowing how deep their roots are......
Hence my national service for first generation citizen suggestion. Best way to weed out all these mercenaries.

Ya lor, It is not like Singapore is soo big with soooo many problems that they can't handle other jobs at the same time, right? Some more most MPs and Ministers have strong grassroot support, they don't really have to hands-on at Town Council matters what, it shows they are good delegators ... they can spend their time with more worthy jobs forming policies that help make Singapore a better place to live in with GREATER impact, and planning 20 years in advance even though they do not have 20/20 eyesight or foresight - to see beyond ordinary citizens like us cannot see ....... :siam:
