Pardon me, just curious. What's all these excitement about phonics? We didn't go thru phonics, both my kids didn't and we speak just as well as the next person. So, what's with all these phonics centres sprouting all over?

              :?

Hi mathsparks, you should know that nowadays parents are more kiasu than last time. Last time we also didn’t have KSP right?

kiasu is the only reason? I remembered my kids had phonics lessons with kinderland, but that’s enough. No need for phonics enrichment. Is it to teach them to speak like ang mo?

Can anyone advise me on the following or alternatives? Please feedback on the centres and programmes below:

                    1) Learning Point - Thomson
                    2) LCentral - Sin Ming
                    3) Read In A Week (Phonics Read) - Toa Payoh
                    4) Alternatives

Also, how is above comparable or different from MMI Phonics?

Basically I’m interested in MMI Phonics cos it’s only about 10mos-1yr and it covers phonics to reading/words recognition plus all the rules. Fees wise MMI is also affordable. Duration and course length is also short. But sad to say, I can’t find a centre reasonably near Toa Payoh.

Thus gotta source elsewhere… Anyone can advise and help??

It's difficult to advise when I have not heard of MMI so I cant compare. I chose LCentral because their primary school program (exam skills) is good for my dd. But I believe the Reading program is only 33 weeks and your child qualifies that if he/she has a good knowlege of phonics first. If he/she doesnt then they have phonics program to help.

I am sory I cant comment on the other.
