How do you knwo if your kid is dyslexia? if she can't read but can write and spells well. Is she dyslexia or just a lack of foundation in literacy?

Do you need to have a combo of 3 read/ write/ spell in order to be diagnosie as dyslexia or any one will be?

My girl is 7 years old, she is slower than her peers she can't read well, but can read simple words, no problem in writing and ace in spelling. Is she dyslexia?

    • Child not focusing in class

My child has focusing problems. She can’t focus in class and concentrate. Teachers had feedback to me that she is slow in her work as in completion of work in class.

She is in P1. how to rectify and help her?

      Hi Ashley,

      Thanks for your response.

Just wanted to check if it is fun for the kids but yet does not neglect the academic aspect so they really learn english the fun way? I am looking for a english program that helps build on all aspect of english eg. grammatical rules, etc... as I believe that once that is done then can the creative writing be good. No point having ideas but unable to write properly to bring out the thots when it is plagued by wrong spelling or grammar errors.

Also, my son K2 currently is required to do a reading test for P1 prog next year. Any slightest idea what is required?
What i understand from my daughter is that she has a lot of fun learning english thru creative stories and play in BC. They will invite parents to sit at the back during one of the interactive lesson for parents to witness how the class is conducted and provide feedbacks on things to be improved. Overall, I seen vast improvement in my daughter and she is always looking forward to attend the classes in BC.
Hi

Just like we want Beijing teachers to teach our children Chinese, do you know if BC provides real British teachers to teach English? That would be a real plus for me. Other than me having a fetish for the British accent, I guess there's nothing better than having a native teacher for teaching a language.
I send my daughter to BC for a year and all the teachers there are foreign talents from british/ australia/ new zealand, etc. So far my girl enjoys herself tremendously. They also have spelling and creative writing. Overall I am a satisfy customers of BC. Highly recommend.

    • RE: [Serangoon] Primary Schools

but when I look into past years statistic, St nic has almost 173-180% more than the require no. of seats which means competition is very strong. Whereas OLGC chances are higher to get in.

I am at such a lost. Should I risk trying for St nic and ended up with no school at all or should I try for OLGC which has a higher chance?

      Hi

I failed for the balloting for 2B within 1km for St Nic. I am one of those 13 who didn't manage to clinch a place.

My options now are ranking in terms of preference:

      1) CHIJ Our Lady of Good Counsel (within 1-2 km) from my mum house
We like the fact it's a CHIJ girls school and single session. the environment is very serene and like it that the school is small. but within 1-2 km need to ballot but risk is lower.

      2) Marymount convent (within 1-2 km) from my mum house
Location is good and has the most no. of seats and should req no balloting. But heard school not good.

      3) KCP bishan (within 1-2 km) from my mum.
Require balloting from past years records.

      4) Anderson Primary (within 1km)
No balloting require but double session and logistic will be an issue as nobody at home. Child will have to travel to mum house in the a.m. and to and fro on sch bus from mum house.

      5) St Nic (within 1km)
Try to ballot for the 25 seats again and chances only 50%. Might end up with no school and hopefully Marymount might still have seats.

      Can anyone advise????

CHIJ our Lady of good counsel is not in AMK but near to Serangoon Garden.

You might wish to consider Marymount Convent which is an all girls school but then it’s not a popular school.

Hi there, any feedbacks or comments about Marymount convent? Seems very secluded up the hill at Marymount road. Have quite a fair bit of seats which I think under 2C does not require any balloting >1km. appreciate any feedbacks in this school.
