The Alternative Story:
      Belle:

      Hi TAS,

My child learnt about Verb-Noun-Verb at your centre.
Can you explain the difference or provide more clarification between these 2 sentences?

I saw David go to the classroom.
I saw David going to the classroom. Does changing \"David\" to \"him\" make a difference?

      Hi Belle,

Changing “David” to “him” doesn't make a difference.

We can use this example to explain the difference between both sentences:

I saw David run to the classroom.
I saw David running to the classroom.

There actually isn’t much difference except:

I saw him run across the road: I saw him reach the other side.

I saw him running across the road: I saw him running but he might not have reached the other side.

The verb is actually either an infinitive (the basic form of a verb, without an inflection binding it to a particular subject or tense (e.g. see in we came to see, let him see ), or it is a gerund (a verb form which functions as a noun, in English ending in –ing).

If we explain about infinitives and gerunds to younger kids - they may get more confused so we tell them it is VNV and explain that the second verb will either always be in the base form or in the 'ing' form.

      Hope this helps you!
      TAS

So if the question is a multiple questions with the options of a) run b) running among others, how does my child know which one to choose if the question is just simply, \" I saw him _______ across the road.\"

We come across such question and having learnt about VNV, we give the answer run but the answer at the back of the assessment is running. :?

My girl seems to enjoy her Sec 1 life. Very relaxed these few weeks and not many homework.

Btw, can I find out from the parents what is the average going tuition rate ($/hr) for lower secondary school subjects? How about English and Mathematics? Private and group.

      TIA

    • RE: Thyroid disorder

Do you also have an enlarged thyroid/goiter?

The goiter will grow bigger over time if not removed. That is why I suspect I could have it years back but it only became more evident when the bump got bigger.

Obviously, it seem to be easier removing the whole gland rather than one part of it. Anyway, the decision to remove only the affected side is to delay the need to depend on medication. Right now, I do not have to take any medication as the left side of the gland is able to produce a balanced hormones for me. I am very bad with medication. I tend to forget to take pills and finish my course of medicine.

I had my operation 2 years back. A surgery will normally resulted in a scar on the neck. The length of the cut would depend on the size of the goiter. As for my operation, I had chosen a new technology of surgery which was the robotic surgery. There was no scar on the neck as the 3 small cuts were around the armpit and breast areas. Therefore, no one can tell I had an operation done. The operation was done with the help of robot. At the moment, I believe less than a handful of ENT surgeons can handle robotic surgery or know how to operate with this technology. Of course, it is costlier than the normal surgery.

    • RE: Thyroid disorder

      I have thyroid disorder too.

Found out a few years back by accident as I do not have the obvious symptoms associated with hypo/hyperthyroidism.
Looked into the mirror one day and noted the neck a bit swollen. Not obvious from the front but can see a bit bump from the side. I realised it could have developed since a few years back. Anyway, went for tests and referred to ENT doctors. Had done own researches on the internet as well. In short, it was the antibodies in my body that attacked the thyroid gland. My disorder is referred to Hashimoto thyroiditis( autoimmune disease).. http://www.webmd.com/women/hashimotos-thyroiditis-symptoms-causes-treatments#1
In fact, other than the enlarged thyroid (i.e goiter), I have no other symptoms under this disorder.

The option is to either leave or remove the gland. As the affected thyroid is at right side of the gland, I opt to remove that part and leave the left one untouched so that there is no need to take medication for life at the moment. Now have to monitor the left gland yearly. I believe eventually, I may need to remove the left one as well and from then on take medication for life to balance the hormones. Right now, I just hope this day will not come so early.

      Hi,

I am interested to know what happens if the child is selected to the school through DSA but then the psle results falls short of the cut-off point for the school. Does it matter once he was already selected in?
Think better to take 1 day leave. Half day seems neither here nor there if results are going to be released from 11am onwards.

After results are released, half a day is over and definitely no fun rushing back to the office to face those kpo colleagues.

Yeah, can't imagine still need to rush to office after all the excitement and anxiety. I would have no mood to work regardless of the outcome 🤷
Thanks for all the inputs.. Just realised I have a full seminar on 24th Nov. 😢
