      Tks Jce...

I agree it is hard. But an \"expert\" told me that when you train with hard keys, you will not having difficulty with the \"normal\" ones. Maybe its just a different school of taughts.

And yes, my wife learn that they stop production already so i guess it must be very old... In fact she found a newspaper article (before WWII)from NLB archieves advertising the piano..

The \"expert\" also claim that european pianos are better based on the fact that all famous pianist are europeans... Not sure if this is a valid arguements.

Can I ask anothe question? How about Apollo piano from Japan? Is it suitable?

      Thanks in advance.

      jce:
Collard and Collard was established more than 200 yrs ago under a different name. However as far as I know, the company stopped producing pianos around the sixties which means the piano is at least 40+ years old. I have not played on one before but I heard that the action is quite bad...

For beginners, I'd recommend choosing a piano with keys that are not too hard to push down and hammer action that is too heavy otherwise the child, with fingers that have yet developed, will find it difficult to play on. However don't choose one that has light hammer action either because that won't train the weak fingers well. It's not easy getting a piano, esp secondhand, as you will just have to go round trying until you find something with a nice sound, suitable action and within your budget.

    • RE: All About Choosing and Buying Pianos

Hi. I was searching for a piano for my 5 year old son and came across Collard & Collard, which is a piano made in England. So my question is,

      1. is it good/suitable for a child who just started learning piano?
      2. Would he have any difficulty/difference when he goes for his exam?

      Thank You.

    • RE: All About Active Community Leaders

I just heard from a parent whose son is my son nursery classmate that the quota for GRL and PV are separate. That is to say if for example there are 50 slots for Phase 2B, 25 is for PV and 25 is from GRL. Which means a PV would not be able to take a GRL slot.

      Is this true?

Observer does not account to active Community Leader.

It is not too late to become an Executive Member. Normally it takes about 6 months or so.

      Fabbymum:
      Dear parents,

We are planning to move to Serangoon North soon and our son is due for P1 registration next year Jul 11. Nearest school is Rosyth (only 300 m away), but we know that balloting is required for <1km.

We are also late for the PV registration already. The only hope now is to become an active community leader, within the Ang Mo Kio GRC.

We currently live in this area, and hence, should not be a problem to register and be active in the committee.

However, is it true that we have to be an active Executive Member for at least one year before we qualify under Phase 2B? Is it too late to start enrolling now? Is an Observer position counted as 'Active Community Leader' as defined by MOE?

Can somebody help us? If this is too late, I guess the ONLY way is through phase 2C... 😞

Thank you for your reply in advance.

    • RE: Kumon - Discussion

My son is turning four next year. After much consideration, I decided to send him to Kumon at one of these branches. There are Anchorpoint, Bukit Merah Central, Dhoby Ghaut, Greatworld City, Jalan Bukit Merah, Novena, UE Square and Tiong Bahru Plaza. Any of these locations are fine with me. Anyone has input on these branches would be greatly appreciated.

      Tks in advance.

    • RE: Marymount Kindergarten

Hi, does anyone have any info/feedback on Marymount Kindergarten? I had just registered my son for PN class starting jan 2009. Would like to know what i can look out for and if there is anything i should prepare him for. Did anyone attend the orientation? Please share. Maybe, Chief Kiasu, can you share what would be taught for a 3yr old in a Pre-Nursery? Thank You.
