• RE: St Margaret's Primary

Thank you for your detailed response and sorry for the delay in reverting.

We have been extremely fortunate and had just received news that our daughter has been admitted under the Assured School Placement (ASP) program into St Margaret’s. Based on your post, this would appear to be a relatively low occurrence, as such we are overjoyed and grateful.

In the event that there are returning Singaporeans in a similar situation, and had not previously secured a Leave of Absence with a specific school, we would suggest writing to MOE and/or the School. We have found that this has been most helpful. We believe that the outcome is solely based on proximity to the school and vacancy at the level of admission. This approach will likely be unsuccessful where there is a long waiting list at the level of entry. For the Schools we had investigated, there was a 25-30% drop in the total number of students admitted over the last 3-4 years. As such, the upper primaries has a larger population than the lower primaries, coupled perhaps with the temporary shift to its present location, this may have resulted in this availability.

We had also subsequently realize that it may not be an easy decision choosing between St. Margaret and Fairfield, if coed /girls school and distance are not prevailing factors. From an affiliation perspective, through to Junior College, we believe that SMPS to be more suitable for our case.

    Hello there,

We are returning Singaporeans that would like to get our daughter to SMPS P4. A request has already been made to MOE, and they will make some recommendations under the Assured School Placement program. Essentially this is an allocation based on proximity and availability. We are indicated our priorities as 1) SMPS, 2) RVPS, 3) HGS Haig Girl School.

We have a couple of questions:
• Generally, what is the availability like at P4? What are our odds of SC gaining admissions at this level?
  •

• As she learns relatively slowly, and has never lived in Singapore, will the school be of a good fit?
  •

• What are the key pros and cons of SMPS?
  •

• How would you view these three schools, their relative strengths and weakness (location aside)?
  •

• Our choice of SMPS is driven by the 40 point pickup for the Secondary (she would need all the boosting that she can get), is this thinking erroneous?
  •
Could someone kindly pm the email address of the Principal & Vice Principal (we have the generic email address)?

Any light that you can shed on the above questions, will be much appreciated, we have absolutely no clue on the current school situation as we have been away for over 20 years.

    Thank you so much
