jce:I see, I see. Thanks a lot for your enlightenment. There is no restriction or \"law\" as such, it's down to the teacher if he/she has the \"guts\" to take on a higher grade student.
I think majority take on the Dip (performance) because it is \"easier\" to prepare, in the sense that one only prepares the pieces to be PERFORMED. The marking will be judged on the way pieces are performed. Whereas the teaching Dip requires one to have a portfolio, showing a wide range of students. In the exam, one is also required to show how one would teach a particular piece to a student, in other words, the teaching part is emphasised. The performance of the pieces prepared is less of an issue.

RE: Music Graded Exams
For me, as a parent, I will want a teacher with all the paper qualifications first, then communications. Look, I’m paying almost $0.80 a minute for now and more later, I simply cannot afford to build rupport or adjusting my kids’ timetable to suit the teacher only to find out months later that the teacher is not suitable. Most teachers nowsaday do not conduct yearly recital/s. Other than the yearly grading exam, there is really not many other platforms for parents (especiously ppl like me with no music background) to gauge the progress. If the teacher is not qualified ‘enough’, you can imagine what our children is getting.
Communications is a two way traffic. I have been wanting to build a relationship with my kids’ piano teacher but 1 1/2 year now, we only know her by her first name. Casual talk on children progress is charged during the lesson time, she can cut short the theory lesson and still leave on the dot. Communications after lesson is always in a rush even though it is 9pm.
Well, I think mine is still not too bad given that my children like her. I have heard some teachers charged a handling fees for registering grading exam. I can only say "Cold Professional".
Sorry… I think I’m out of topic now. -
RE: BA Music vs Dip ABRSM/LRSM/FRSM
jce:
Jce, I would like to know whether there is any restriction one can teach. For example, Grade 8 teacher is not taking student who is learning grade 8; Dip ABRSM is not teaching similar level? The Fellowship (FRSM and FTCL) level is as high as Masters level and the requirements to attain that is very high indeed.
The Bachelor (BA and BMus) level is equivalent to the Licentiate level (LRSM and LTCL).
To teach Dip level, ideally would be the Fellowship or Masters level (or even PHD level).
Also, Dip ABRSM Music Performance seems to be more popular than the other two : Dip Music Direction and Instrumental/Vocal Teachings. Why?
Thanks. -
RE: Performance Platform for Pte Lesson Students
ya. SMTA only. However I found this http://www.nac.gov.sg/com/com02a.asp?id=36. Look for info under Rules &Regulations (pdf).
If your child is in the childcare, may be can ask other children doing violin gather together for a mini performance to entertain their school mates during tea break (Need to consult CC and their parents though). Again, just my thoughts. Easier to say than do. -
RE: Music Graded Exams
The piano teacher who commented Trinity is easier to pass actually got herself Dip Performance from Trinity. I got the answer because I was asking the diff between the two. I have no music background but since I heard it from 2 piano teachers, I would prefer my children to go for ABRSM.
There is Bs Music(Perf) as well. Is it even tougher than Dip(Perf)? Piano teacher who has Bsc Music, is it more qualified? -
RE: Performance Platform for Pte Lesson Students
I think… I think only… may be you can enroll the child to competitiion organised by the Singapore Music Association? Competition, if taken with good intention, is a chance to gauge the standard and motivation to do better.

RE: Music Graded Exams
One piano teacher personally told me Trinity is easier to pass. The other piano teacher I talked to told me ABRSM carries more weigh.

BA Music vs Dip ABRSM/LRSM/FRSM
Piano teachers with BA Music, are they more qualified compared to those with Dip ABRSM/LRSM/FRSM?
What level must one attain to be able to teach Dip level?

RE: Q&A - P3 Math
ksi:
Thanks ksi. But I do not how to explain this simultaneous equation to a P3The cost of 7 erasers and 3 rulers is $5.05.
The cost of 2 erasers and 6 rulers is $3.95
Find the cost of 2 erasers and 2 rules.
7 erasers + 3 rulers = 5.05 --------(1) x 2
14 erasers + 6 rulers = 10.1 --------(2)
2 erasers + 6 rulers = 3.95 ---------(3)
(2)-(3),
12 erasers = 6.15
2 erasers = 1.025
Then 6 rulers = 3.95-1.025 = 2.925
2 rulers = 0.975
So 2 erasers + 2 rulers = 1.025 + 0.975 = $2
or (1) + (2)
9 erasers + 9 rulers = $9
2 erasers + 2 rulers = $2 (proportionately)
My initial solution is :
7 Erasers + 3 Rulers = $5.05
2 Erasers + 6 Rulers = $ 3.95
Add them together we have
9 Erasers + 9 Rulers = $5.05 + 3.95 = $9
Each set of 1 Eraser 1 Ruler = $1
Therefore 2 sets of Eraser & Ruler = $2.
I'm thinking since the question ask for the price of 2 sets, the working out of each price is not necessary.
Anyone to shed some lights? Thanks in advance.
