Hi Tamarind
Thanks for sharing the material on recognizing the alphabets. Where did you get the dora alpha puzzle? I’m keen to get one. If you are not using and your kids are not playing, I don’t mind buying off you. My gal loves dora and I’m teaching her to recognize alphabets now.
Thanks!

RE: [Balestier/Whampoa] Preschools
Any feedback on Kim Keat Christian church Kindergartens located at Beng Wan Road opposite St Michael Road and Learning Vision @ KK Hospital? How are the teachers and curriculum sufficient for P1 preparation?
I welcome other Childcare or Kindergarten feedback for the area of Whampoa, Kallang, Boon Keng. -

Thanks for your reply and valuable advice. Greatly appreciated. This forum is full of sharing and ideas, it is truly valuable for me a first time mum. will try my best to make learning alphabets fun for her. Started to let her watch the Sesame Streets All Star Alphabets VCD today and have ordered the Leapfrog Letters Factory. Hope she will be able to recognize at least 70% if not all by end of this year! -
RE: All About Grooming & Encouraging Good Reading Habits
Hi All
Interesting to read the post on phonics and nurturing reading habits. Is it necessary for kids to recognize the alphabet before starting phonics? My gal is 2 yrs 1 mth and I intend to send her for phonics classes next year. She can sing ABC song from A to Z but when you point to letter A and ask her what is this, she will answer ABC. When she see signboards, etc. she will say "look ABC". I keep telling her that ABC are letters and alphabets to form words. Similarly to numbers, she can say 1 to 10 but can’t recognize individual number.
I have some flash cards at home, she recognize the pictures and ignore the alphabets and words. Today I printed only alphabet (no pictures) on A3 to paste it in her room. Printed A to C on an A4 size to read to her daily hoping that over time she will be able to recognize all the alphabets.
Am I overly anxious about her recognizing alphabets and numbers? At her age, is it simply exposing them and not expecting them to recognize? -
RE: Preschool Curriculum
Hi Insider and Buds
Thanks and truly grateful for your reply. I’m seriously working out my options on whether to place her in another CC or Kindy.
Buds, at this stage not comfortable to reveal the CC. I will do so when I am comfortable. Honestly, I’m disappointed that till now the in-charge have not acknowledged receipt of the letter I submitted to her via the hand of the principal. But have not found an alternative so can’t be hard on her. Having said that, I will sure call her next week to follow up. -

RE: Preschool Curriculum
Hi Insider
I’m in a dilemma. I’m not exactly pleased with the way my daughter Full Day CC is operating. I’m searching for alternative and there aren’t a better one near home and the fee is also higher. Am I expecting too much from a CC monthly fee of $300+ after subsidy?
She recently enter N1. I don’t have a list of daily schedule, what time for bath, lunch, lesson, etc. I don’t know what’s their weekly meals. No idea what is her class size. I have request for these information though. I know who is her English teacher, never met her Chinese teacher. Total number of children for N1 is more than 20 and I’m not sure if they split to 2 classes for lesson.
Have asked for their curriculum, was told it is theme base and what theme for which term but didn’t give in-dept of how will it be carried out and no presentation of worksheets.
In your opinion, what is the full day CC monthly fee for N1 I should be prepared to pay for a decent curriculum with good teachers? If the CC is not so good, will it be better to place her in 3 hours kindergarten instead? -
