Does Smu have guaranteed overseas experience?
My other main concern is smaller cohort + no boarding may equate to lesser opportunities to make friends.
I thought I read somewhere that smu has lesser hrs of lessons compared to the other 2 unis, so their students typically do side projects with that extra time. Looks like need to be very driven (I read on average smu kids have more internships too). I would have want my son to enjoy his youth more leh, or should join the rat race early?

RE: All About GEP
My kid’s journey was more than 6yrs ago. During that time, my concern was whether my kid could handle higher chinese. The grp teacher told me to have faith in geppers’ learning abilities. Check if your kid is keen to transit into a new learning environment and support him as best as you can. It has been a fulfilling and transforming journey for my boy.

RE: Top sch vs Good neighbourhood sch
@jkids
If u can name the schools, we may probably be able to share more views as some top schools may not worth the 50min dual transport daily 2x commute and there may be more choices between your 2 options etc. -

RE: 2024 PSLE Discussions and Strategies
For Chinese Oral for my boy's sec sch previously (because the primary school version came out only later), I got my son to listen to the audio of the iread and learn the vocab. I am a believer that listening regularly is an alternative way to let the kids learn how to recognise the use of the vocab. Before I had access to these audio resources (eg back in the mid 2010s lol), I got my kids to recite (to also prac oral) their cl tuition centre's model compo (that is not v cheem type, eg closer to what they can achieve), record their own reading and listen to them for weeks leading up to exams.
This is the primary school version

Pls check if this series come with QR code to scan for audio track. The sec sch version have. -

Are these not shared with parents of current students only? Why are they posted on public platform?

If same as this year, no need to buy house t shirt as the school issue during orientation (need to pay for ori packge; use edusave;2 t-shirt plus some stuff ; value for money).
We (son ri/2022) received the orientation info at end Jan23. For prog that he attended that started before the jae joined them, he got his updates from email.
We received notification of First Deduction of fees via giro in Mar this year; deducted in Apr. So there should be time to apply for ISB in Jan. If you keen to settle ASAP, you/your girl can probably inquire personally when you dropping by the school to get uniform or other stuff.
Meanwhile, enjoy the holidays.suehanah\" post_id=\"2124431\" time=\"1701906689\" user_id=\"107778:
Hello parents! I have a couple of questions..
My daughter was in RGS, going to Year 5 next year.
When do we normally get info on RI? Referring to info like 1st day of school, books n uniform purchase?
When will the school give us the login info to Stamford RI portal?
When can we start applying for MOE ISB?
I sent an email to the school but no one replied. Calls to the school also went unanswered.
Thanks! -
RE: All About ABRSM Grades & Support
P3 doing g4 plus has musical awards, pretty impressive. Please let him continue if he shows interests. Dont let getting certifications be the sole reason to continue learning music. My son passed his diploma recently. I told him that if his future wife earns more than him and needs him to be a stay home dad, he can teach piano for side income.
(his future kids and nieces/nephews can learn piano from him too).Garfield2882\" post_id=\"2123778\" time=\"1701067704\" user_id=\"188233:
I am writing as a parent.
My boy showed interest learning piano at age 5 plus. Mummy thought music is good training for brain and memory and motors skill.
My boy has won a few awards in last 2 years. He likes to talk about them.
We don't know how a musician life will be in Singapore, maybe I am wrong, we dont seem to see alot of people in the performing art area. And it is probably too late to be a musician, given P3 next yr doing Gr 4. Oh yes, he has chosen band as his CCA.
As he is doing well academically, we may put focus on his academic.
Suppose my boy continues to be interested and completes Gr 8 or diploma, the certification is of no use if not considering career related to music.
As almost every kid now learns either piano or violin or some form of music, we are not even sure if playing piano (rv outright states on their website no violin, piano, guzheng) well can supplement as a DSA noting most will tie to CCA such as band, choir. My boy's sch band is not competitive, that will mean it is quite impossible.
What will you do if you are in our situation?
1. Request boy to quit music if nt really interested?
2. Take another musical instrument and join philharmonic performances outside sch cca, if considering route through DSA.
3. Continue piano and focus on academic? -
RE: Networking Group - JCs General
Thanks everyone for the input.
The decision is to do 1h3 or to do none.
After attending trial lesson in sch, Kid commented that H3 physics appears more manageable (eg like olympiad/application type) while H3 math is very challenging despite doing well in h2 math. He is not doing f math.
Is he v keen in any? I think he is just fomo and may want to try out a while to see how it’ll be.
Considering H3 math as he intends to do math in local uni, but I worry pre matured exposure will steer him away. -
RE: Networking Group - JCs General
If kid is facing a plateau in learning a h2 subj, will doing it in H3 expand the viewpoint? If kid is doing well in a h2 subject, will doing it in H3 drown the interests? Am referring to H3 physics and math. Kid is considering one or none. Any comments?
