csc:
      I don't think it's 250 + ., unless it's via DSA.

The score via PSLE is at least 260.
This is taken from NUSH website:

      Year 1 ( Phase 2)

The registration period for Phase 2 is only available after PSLE result are released.

      Registration

      1. Registration can be carried out under the section ‘Online Application’ on this website .
      2. For those with no computer access, computer terminals will be set up at the NUS High School campus for applicants to register online.
      3. Copies of the PSLE result slip are to be submitted upon request and are non-returnable.

      Selection Criteria

      1. Shortlisting of applicants will be solely based on the PSLE performance.
      2. Applicants with aggregate score of 250 above with A* in both Math and Science are encouraged to apply.
      3. Do take note that the aggregate range of 2008’s PSLE pupils posted to 2009 secondary 1 is 260-278

      http://www.highsch.nus.edu.sg/content.php?id=1f0e3dad99908345f7439f8ffabdffc4

Note that last year, generally most of the top schools had a lower COP. Year before that was 2 or 3 points higher So got A* in math and science and 250+ means you can apply, but you most likely need 260+ to secure a place thru PSLE.

I have the Step 10 too and fully agreed with you a YES in step 9 in what we all are waiting for.

I know of a year 1 student in NUSH she got in thru DSA and was told that all student accept the offer has to attend the tea session and they will give out the confirmation letter.

      Hope I'm not wrong.

I think all students make it to the camp have the Step 10 added into their status.
Last year, those who received confirmed or waitlist offer were invited to a tea session (Of course tea session is to persuade you to put them as 1st choice). So it looks like they are going to send out the results soon and step 10 is probably for them to gauge the response to the tea session.

During the tea session, you will also be asked to indicate on a form if you are going to choose NUSH. It is not binding though. Base on that they may convert a few waitlist to confirm offers. A few who did not make it to the waitlist were also called up for interviews and later placed on the waitlist.

Probably the same or similar process this year. Good luck.

Just wonder how he managed to skip level. I thought the S'pore govt is rather strict with this, no skipping of levels allowed (long, long ago it was permitted). If bypassing of levels is allowed, I think many parents (e.g. those with children in GEP or those who consistently top the level in school exams) who are more kiasu would have requested for it. Some schools allowed students to accelerate certain subjects only (by joining higher level classes), but they will normally stick with their own classes in most subjects i.e. they remain at the same leve.

Not sure how he did it. He was GEP at St Hilda's.

Have seen this on MOE website on GEP and the exceptionally gifted:

      Level skipping
The student is moved ahead of his/her age grade. This may be done during the academic year or at the end of the year. The student can be promoted to a maximum of 4 levels.

[quote=\"JennMuhammad Haikal was last year top Malay student. Heard he is taking his O level this year. Way Tan is actually younger than sec 1 and had skip levels so he is now in year 1 at NUSH. All taking year 3 or above maths at NUSH. Year 3 maths at NUSH is pitch at the JC level. By the time they complete NUSH, they would probably have completed university maths.

Last year PLSE and this year doing 'O' Level? Wom! :!: how is it possible for him to study so far in advance? Is he locally grown? Or, having a personal tutorto teach him so far ahead? :?
Not sure how he is doing it or how he came to this stage. He was from GEP in Roysth, so most probably local. Got info that he is taking O levels from some of his classmates in NUSH. Ironically in NUSH , you don't need to sit for O or A levels.

For SMO(Junior), the top is NUSH, 2nd is HCI and 3rd is RI. (inside info 😉 )

NUSH did extremely well this year, considering their student population is very small as compared to other sec schools & JCs.

All awardees in the list above will attend the prize giving ceremony. Team winners are in a separate list (given to the schools) and they will also attend the same ceremony.

Ya, looks like NUSH has a number of juniors who will help them win math awards in the years to come.

Lim Jeck is only in sec 2 and represented Singapore at the IMO. Probably the youngest person to represent singapore at math olympics.

Amongst the NUSH students in the SMO junior top ten places, only Lim Jeck is in sec 2. http://sms.math.nus.edu.sg/Competitions/SMO2009.aspxThe rest are in sec 1. All were Platinum holders in SMOPS last year.

Muhammad Haikal was last year top Malay student.

Any idea on what they will do in the NUS High camp on 25th July 09?

Last year students have to go thru physics, bio, chemistry, maths, english and general. It was done in 2 half days. Looks like only 1 day this year. Not sure if format will be the same this year.

Last year they were put into groups and worked on experiments in physics, bio and chemistry. Have to write down their findings and answer questions posed by the teachers. Teachers observed their behaviours during the experiments. \"General\" was a project that teams competed with each other. Maths and english (essay) were individual papers. No interviews during the camp but after the camp a few boarderline cases were called up for further interviews.

I guess other than intellectual ability, they are looking for students with the personality suitable for their school. Many participants found the camp fun.

Good luck and hope your kids enjoy the camp.

For those parents with PSLE children, here's the much needed indicative guide only for top 10 sec schools (by prestige):

      - Raffles Institution ( PSLE cut-off : 263 )

      - Raffles Girls Secondary School ( PSLE cut-off : 265 )

      - Hwa Chong Institution ( PSLE cut-off : 259 ; SAP School)

      - Nanyang Girls High School ( PSLE cut-off : 262 ; SAP School)

      - Dunman High School ( PSLE cut-off : 259 ;SAP School)

      - Singapore Chinese Girls School ( PSLE cut-off : 254 )

      - Methodist Girls School ( PSLE cut-off : 253 )

      - Anglo-Chinese School Independent ( PSLE cut-off : 253 )

      - NUS High School of Mathematics and Science ( via DSA )

      - CHI St Nicholas Girls School ( PSLE cut-off : 250 ;SAP School)
NUS High does take a small number of students via PSLE. The PSLE cutoff point for last year is 260 (this is indicated in their website). Applicants need to have A* in maths and science.

      Hi sunnyrain,

I think you no need to worry abt your daughter, as I know, all winners of RI Primary Mathematics World Contest 2009 will be given a confirmed place from RGS/RI immediately. Sean Pek, one of RI 2009 winners, (6th place), both SMOPS and APMOPS winnner, he received a confirmed place from RI, but he wants NUSH, he attended NUSH selection test on 4 July 2009.

Mr. KELWYN NG (Head / Mathematics Raffles Institution) replied my email
last time, he said that top score of RI 2009 is 69, my daughter is also from China, she scored 43 and 98 percentile, she got Credit Certification only. How abt your daughter, what score she got? as a 3rd place winner, she should above 60, am I right?

Thank you for your reply. I'm more relieved now. My daughter is 99.99 percentile, her score is 64, if I'm not wrong. RI also sent her an invitation letter to apply for DSA in RI. But she can't change her gender, that's the problem.

She should be able to get a place in NUSH. They have quite a number of foreign students - chinese, koreans, indians - who are older than the singapore kids. Last year top graduating student from NUSH was from China. She was also older than the others.

But if your preference is for all girls school then NUSH may not fit. Like most maths olympic winners are boys, this school has more boys than girls,

NUSH updated DSA application status in their website. but I'm confused about camp now. the latest infor on the website saying it is on 19 & 26 Jul, not 25 Jul

Maybe they'll clarify when they email the students.

Anyone has any idea of the 400 students accepted for the camp, how many eventually get offered a place?

NUSH takes in about 160 students each year. 85% comes from DSA. So that means they will offer about 140 confirmed places. Out of these 140 are 70 SMOPS platinum holders. That means approx 70 places left for the others. My guess is that another 20+ gets waitlisted. Good Luck.

Probably, I guess.... altho' the GEP teachers in my boys' school say not to expect RI to give out rejection letters. They say that if you don't hear from them, that means no \"news\".

      Do they reject GEP students?

Yes, there are cases. My fren's child was not offered a place by any school, then had to just wait for psle results.
Believe they are rare and not so common?
According to slides shown by some GEP schools to provide info on DSA to their students, 85 % of GEP students are admitted to their secondary schools thru DSA. That means there is another 15% who did not gain entry thru DSA. It is also known that some GEP students do not go to IP schools for their secondary education.
