I transferred my boy to another school at the end of Secondary one.
In his previous school, he was constantly bullied and the principal and teachers couldn’t do anything. They conducted their investigation but didn’t bother to update me. Principal also didn’t bother to reply my emails… My boy disliked attending school and was always thinking of excuses not to go to school. His classmate put stone inside his bag, threw his stuffs around, etc. My boy is quite good natured but the bullying was very disturbing. So, I made the choice to transfer him to another school and he is very happy in the new school. The classmates very accepting of him though he was a new student and he enjoys going to school everyday. More importantly, the school supported his external CCA and he could excel in that. His previous school refused to endorse it. So to cut story short, sometimes we need a change the environment to suit our children. Its like changing a company when we feel that the culture is not suited for us. My boy changed from Express to Express stream so no issue and with our religion, we prayed and left it to God to decide if the new school would accept him.

Yes. Parents will have their briefing in the hall and the kids will be whisked off to be with the teachers.

RE: [Tampines] Primary Schools
Nope, they will not announce the class until year end when you receive a letter from the school. As mentioned earlier, the kids will be doing an assessment test and they will group the kids from there…

Make sure he can read well and do independent work. SHPS teachers do not spoonfeed. Btw, during orientation, the kids will be whisked off for a small assessment test. Nothing too difficult, just simple math questions. It’s to test their readiness for P1 maybe… Not sure. My boy said it was very easy so no stress.

SHPS is a good school but their standard is quite high and some of their schoolwork is quite tough. I didn’t know how to do my boy’s P2 Math!! hahaha… damn embarrassing.

Good luck to all those registering today! My boy is in SHPS and I would say its a pretty holistic school. But academic wise, its test/exam papers are pretty tough too. Homework alot at times and it irritates me cos my weekends are burnt doing homework.
For those who like lots of parent teacher interaction, you will like the school. Form teachers give me their personal mobile and email add, call my house if I text them to ask on any assignments or homework, very very ON. I am one of those bochup parents so until now, I am still trying to get used to this style. Hahaha. Then every year, you must attend the PTM to collect the report book. They will not give it to the child. I find it very troublesome as I have to work and gotto take off just for a 10 mins session. :scratchhead:
Then again, most parents would appreciate the above. They also organise workshops and talks for parents during the year. And camps during the hols for the kids. Its parents' support group is very strong and I think its a good thing as at school event, there is definitely support for the kids.
Overall, I think its a pretty good school and discipline wise, its pretty strict. My boy had to write a 100 word essay cos he accidentally pushed someone down a short flight of stairs. No injuries but the teacher says he has to write what he did wrong and reflect on his actions. Thought its a good move to teach the child to be responsible for his actions.

My niece is in P4. I think she was over-aged for MPM but the mom insisted she try it out.

RE: MPM Maths - Discussion
Oh, now I understand better on what you meant. MPM is the only Math enrichment that my boy is exposed to and it worked for him cos he is someone who is very used to independent learning from young.
Yes, I do agree if a child is weak in Math, tuition would be better. My niece tried MPM and it didnt work for her so now she is having Math tuition at home instead.
