    • RE: DSA 2021

      Hi

My DD has been offered CO by Temasek Sec and CHIJ Katong under sports domain. Appreciate your advice on the schools’ strengths in aiding us to make our decision.

      Thank you in advance.

Any questions need to do calculation? Btw, are the kids allowed to use their calculators for the science paper?

I went to 2 DSA Sport trial yesterday and I just want to share our experience with KSP parents.

At school X, any children could come and register and then they were told to play and show the skill they have but I was surprised as the coach didn't really pay attention to them :? . But after a while 10 of them were chosen  None of academic results were questioned at all.

At school Y, only shortlisted children were invited for the trial and each of them was tested individually by the coach for their ability in relevant sport's technique. Maybe because the number of shortlisted children is much lesser than school X.

So I guessed, at school X, luck is playing part too as a child may do well but the coach happened not to notice him/her as he was busy chatting with some parents :scratchhead: But the coach never realized that from 10 children he had chosen, more than half of them were shortlisted at school Y and most of them stand a good chance to get CO from school Y. And school Y's COP was much higher in the past years.
I'm not surprised if those 10 kids were actually invited by the coach to come for the trial. I know of a girl who did not apply for DSA to school A, but the school's coach invited her for a trial and immediately offered her a place in the team, while other kids had to meet the DSA submission dateline, and had to be shortlisted before being invited for a trial. So ultimately, it's the coach who decides whom he wants in his team. Some how I feel that the form submission, being shortlisted and all, are just formalities.

I am also thinking of a mid-career switch into teaching. I am a Singapore citizen (born and bred). I have a B.Eng (Hons) and M.Sc, both from NUS. I did well enough at 'A'-levels to be offered a PSC scholarship in teaching, but I rejected it then. I am now almost 40. I am just wondering if I will stand a chance due to my age. I also wonder if my rejection about 20 years ago would have any negative impact on my application?

Is there anyone who is in a similar situation who could share any insights or views? 😄

A friend of mine has a similar story, only that she did take up the scholarship (degree program), but decided to quit after the 1st year, as she was offered to do science, where she has no passion in. She applied to teach again, using her 'A' levels results and was accepted. She did her DipEd and now teaching in a primary school. So I think that if you're really passionate about teaching, give it a try 🙂

Been with them since June last year and intend to continue. Really saved a lot of $$ and the extra $$ goes to road tax.
