Too much TV or computer screen causes strain on the eyes. Also it is very important to have the screen at eye level so as to not to have the head tilted to look at it. With so much of junk food being eaten by kids today, lack of the required nutrients, especially vitamin A could also be a contributing factor.

RE: How to "train" an infant to sleep without being carried ?
There’s no hard and fast rule about this. If your baby was sleeping in the cot earlier, then this may be a passing phase. Infants like to be carried and the human touch and once we do that it doesn’t take time to become a habit. Like icy_mama said don’t rock him too much, let him take comfort from the warmth he gets from you and gently put him down when you think he’s about to fall asleep. Don’t worry, we have been through this and it passes soon.

RE: Lost Interest In Study
Losing interest in studies suddenly would have some other deep rooted cause. I know kids don’t like to share everything with their parents, but then who else will help them if they need help? Is he normally an outgoing child? Has anything else about him changed? Try talking to him without being to pushy. There could be something else bothering him, at school or elsewhere. I know it’s tough being a mom but I too believe that’s a little too much of the burden of studying for him.

RE: Positive thinking is just too important
Motivating post. Positive thinking is the key to a happy life. I too wish more people could see this and take inspiration. Any situation is not really good or bad, but how one perceives it. Focusing on the positives rather than whining about how bad something is, is important.

RE: All About Flu and Cough
Have you checked for allergies. Frequent cough could be an allergic reaction to something in particular. Since it aggravates when she’s sleeping, check for mites or something like that. Medicines or home remedies may help but can’t be a permanent solution.

RE: My children won’t listen! – Here are 8 ways to get them to..
Using the cane does more bad than good. It teaches children that hitting is okay. No kid is born to ‘not listen’. Setting an example is important because kids learn from their parents and what is good for their parents must be good for them, is what they grow up believing. When a kid doesn’t listen there could be one or more of a number of reasons responsible for that. Your point ‘Listen to them’ is so right. Good advice.

RE: ^^6 yo boy w problematic social behaviour
Hi ftwmum, Han Seo has touched the right point here. Focusing only on his bad behavior is not taking you in any positive direction. There are a lot of things you have to consider. To quote you, ’ My DS will keep acting up despite all our nagging, reminders and punishments.’ Nagging never helps, it will only make a child more defensive. Kids are far more smart and intelligent than we imagine. Try to analyze your approach to this situation and follow the advice Han Seo has for you. I have never been an advocate of punishments. They are never effective because most times, we as parents don’t use them effectively. Most important thing, don’t ever deride him in front of others. Encourage him more for the good he does, I’m sure he does. Who says it’s easy being parents.

RE: About changing yourself for your kid.
Depends on what it is that my kid would want changed about me. If it is unreasonable, well I’ll try to talk with him but if he’s being reasonable I have no issues changing. I am not perfect and I’d definitely give it a thought.

RE: All About Working With Children Who Are Weak Academically
Your dd doesn’t seem to be weak academically. It’s just her laid back , take it easy attitude that’s responsible. I never have been an advocate of strict punishments. Why don’t you sit with her and both of you draw a time table maybe? When she sees that her other activities aren’t taken away from her, I think she will realize that she has to spend the allotted time for studies as well. Make it interesting for her. If as you say, that is her personality then you will need to handle her tactfully, isn’t it? I know it will try your patience, but she has to realize on her own that she needs to study and improve her grades.

RE: Over protected child
Pinky he is totally normal, don’t worry. It’s just that he’s so used to having just you around all this time. Try to take him out more often, to parks and other places where there are are lot of kids. Don’t push him into anything, it never helps. Before to go to do any chores around the home, maybe sit with him for a while first, with some activity, till he he gets involved and then get away. Maybe the first few times he’ll leave it and follow you. He’s very small, his personality is not developed yet, he’ll be fine.
