    • RE: How to work with children with low attention span

      Hello parents

I finally found this thread - coz I read somewhere that the worst a parent could do is denial… Hope to get some advises/ suggestions/ recommendations here. TIA!

My boy is P1 this year. He has garnered quite a few feedback from his teachers so far - mainly for lack of attention/ focus in class. He is very fidgety or ‘sharp buttocks’ if you call it.

At his K2 year, he was chosen for Learning Support Program (LSP) program - identified by (I think) Behavior Therapist to be short on attention span. At parallel track, our GP referred him to see a psychologist at KKH, suspecting him to be ADHD. We did both for him - enrolled him for the LSP program and brought him to see the specialist who did not think he’s ADHD. Then we got lazy and did not follow-up as doc cleared him for ADHD.

Now the same old feedback came back to ‘haunt’ us on his lack of attention span. Academic-wise, he’s doing ok. He learns quickly and easily but I don’t think he’s exceptionally bright or what. Even at meal times, he don’t sit still. He don’t snack (not sugar rush) and I gave him fish oil (which supposedly would help).

Now, he’s being observed by school counselor who don’t think he’s ADHD. He’s just more fidgety than normal (read: the rest of class).

Should I even worry ? I don’t know if bringing him to see psychologist would help as she already ruled out ADHD.

Apart from nagging him to behave, sit still, pay attention in class, I really don’t know what else to do.

    • RE: [Ang Mo Kio/Bishan/Thomson/Toa Payoh] Preschools

I am looking for a playgroup or Kindy for my 2011 child. Currently he’s cared for a babysitter and we would like to retain her services for next year so half/full day childcare is out.

      Here’s my findings so far:
Bestheda AMK - they only accept 2010 children for 2014 intake. My child is 2011 baby so they do not accept registration.

Kinderland YCK - Looks good but beyond my budget. I thought I heard wrongly but their fees for 3hr Kindy for N2 is $1610 exclude the school bus fees I have to fork in…

AMK Methodist Church - weird, i tried calling their number listed for kindy and it was not in use.

Marymount Kindy - their office closes at 3pm - no findings on fees/ school bus service yet

Besides above listed, can anyone recommends Playgroup or Kindergarten around AMK (preferred around Ave 4) area?

      Thankssss in Advance!

    • RE: Police, MSF probe alleged child abuse by nanny

I wondered what was the mother doing ? does she throw her boys to the nanny and never visited them ? I really think she failed as a mother. My heart went out to the 2 boys.

I am mother of 2 boys myself and my youngest is cared for by a nanny. She read about this report and told me about it. A nanny herself, she was appalled and disgusted with how the boys had been abused and mistreated.

Even if the nanny of the 2 boys are found to be guilty and punished, the permanent scarring of the boys would stay…

      Hi,

Any one has any feedback on
THE SUNBIRD CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTRE PTE LTD
      122A, SENGKANG EAST WAY, #01 - 49, SINGAPORE 541122

      or

      SPARKLE STONES EDUCARE CENTRE
      145, RIVERVALE DRIVE, #01 - 529, SINGAPORE 540145

I was looking for a CC in SK (near Rivervale Crescent or CP) which has SC service too so i can pick both my boys after work.

      Thanks!

    • RE: Maid to get weekly rest days

I am renewing my maid WP this morning and found that her pay put forth by my agent is only $420 in the system but i am paying her $440 per month with no off-day. So I should renew her contract $420+70= $490 ? in her mind - she would think its only a $50 pay rise.

She just returned from her home leave. I don’t know if i want her to return or not…she’s ok as her helper but has many requests… time off , go meet her gf, change $, remit $, ask me to buy this and that for her… wants to eat breaktalk bread, help her Malay romance books…, get her a Tudong for Hari Raya, etc, etc…

At times, I felt like telling her off to remember who she is and her purpose of being in my family as a helper to the family, not my daughter…Argh…
