There’s usually some cohort wide WhatsApp or Telegram among the parents after PSLE result release.
Carpool is usually private arrangement - many have found workable solutions for morning rides i.e. among the fathers or mother who take turns.

From what I know of class of 2023 - more or less the same for med school entry in 2023/24
14 in YLL, 5 in LKC and 2-3 overseas
Appears YLL took in more girls (likely as per the entire YLL cohort ) and LKC usually slightly more or balanced with boys.

There are 21 students in Medicine from NUSH class of 2022, 11 students in YLL, 8 students in LKC and 2 students overseas. This represent 11% of the cohort, not only a few or small percentage.
And nobody came in their school uniform during white coat ceremony.

I would advise to consider the overseas option with good due diligence, especially if the child wants to practise here. Just few years ago, SMC culled 60 schools from the list to bring it down to 100. The good news is they also cull to foreward date the point of expected graduation year so no one already an undergrad is caught out.

It is also harder to obtain housemanship or residency placements and can you imagine if you are a graduate from school already culled from the list? I recently met a young doctor from one of the UK med schools which was removed from the list. He said it he was the last “approved” batch, now out as GP. Was told that many turn to aesthetics as it’s the only area that these foreign trained docs can quickly make return on investment given the high outlay from parents and their limited pathways. Money good but what of “passion” to be doctor … still stuck as cog to serve rich tai tais. Seriously, I’d rather my child take CS for the money then if any concern or mindset to get return on investment. SG standard of living is harsh so even the wealthiest of families know that.
My friends who are heading departments actually feedback that while it depends on individual, generally they monitor the tier 2 schools and even Oxbridge addenbrooks (generally more academically focused) don’t give them the clinical rigour or pace to prepare for SG clinical environments. Some period of adjustment is needed and the consultants hv to sign on that they vouch for this foreign trained houseman so few want to do so.
If practising here, then be prepared to do more time as houseman unlike the 1 yr for the local YLL/LKC/DukeNus guys who are already familiar with the SG system. There was a poignant post forwarded to me that employment and deployment of junior doctors are done by MOH Holdings etc some voiced greivances that they feel ( whether valid or not) they were unfairly kept on longer periods before licensing given they had no bond to serve. So talk to overseas returnees and verify their experiences. We also had friends with returning kids who could not find placements in SG hosps as now, SG turns out 500 per year. Around 200 will return to in varying capacities every year coupled with cheap imports from third world country for polyclinics.
My advice is if you do med overseas, to stay away until you obtain the specialist license. Lifestyle in AU is better too. UK is debatable unless you can survive the bankrupt NHS ( extended family were NHS doctors, said no no no please).

Asking as we have to replace a device in the family so good to know what will be provided either school before we confirm an Apple order for home.
To be fair, the dentistry post was 3 years ago and things may have improved, the commentators could be just the disgruntled silver of cohort [what higher ups use to explain away disenchantment].
I think more pertinent to do own due diligence, kick the tyres , talk to students current and former. (Applies to LKC Vs YLL vs UK vs AU)
I did rem my own frens had a hard time in Dentistry and one was held back from graduating when a volunteer patient on a long case treatment ghosted and didn’t turn up. There was no Reddit or Ksp then so we didn’t know the details.
Own kids were never interested in dentistry so it made the scope narrower when looking at universities and courses.
We do recall one open house ( 2022 or 2023) where the dentistry talk was just before or after med so we caught it…
The faculty rep just stood woodenly on stage delivering slides on curriculum and the programme - nothing abt student life, no student rep to speak abt their experiences. No charisma, no heart etc. DS said ”no feel wor “ for both course and career.
Also, my friends in healthcare send their children to AU for dentistry - though I am not sure if they had applied to NUS too.
In life, I tell my kids to watch and observe what people do and then have the intuition and pray hard for wisdom.
