Hi, is there a platform where we can find out the open houses of various secondary schools? Also, how does a AL or LLP being carried out in a secondary school? Does it mean that these programs (AL or LLP) are made part of their curriculum for all students or it’s optional much like CCA? Thanks for clarification.

Ok thank you Jennifer.
I called the Admin staff but they said they did not have the information as it is decided by the top management. This is what I could find out so far. Sorry -

RE: Q&A - P3 English
Hi, obviously the answer was not good enough and was only half correct. I am unable to explain in any better way though. However, I believe the teacher didn’t consider it good enough because it is directly linked to how well the student understood the question, thus the question about the point of reference. Sorry if I didn’t explain well enough.

RE: Q&A - P3 English
bluesclue:
Hi, I think it was marked half correct because in the question, the point of reference is \"What\" and \"from\". But in your DS's answer, his point of reference became \"Ali\"Hi I need an explanation of the following remarks in my DS 's comprehension:
Q. What disturbed Ali from his sleep?
DS's Ans: Ali was disturbed by the cry of a baby.
Reference Ans: A crying baby disturbed Ali from his sleep.
DS 's answer was marked as half correct; and the comments from his teacher is that his answer had the wrong point of reference. Could you please help me understand what is wrong with DS's answer?

RE: All About Recreational Swimming
yqyq:
Hi how will the test be conducted? I wouldn't be too concerned about test or no test as long as the kids can swim and enjoy the sports. Enjoying it is very important. After all, they have enough tests in school already so...my dd learned from the same coach for at least 6 - 9 mths at the age of 8 but the coach did not even try to arrange the test for her at all...maybe try to buy time as each mth cost $60.
Then we stop as my dd school has arranged for all P3 for the swimming lessons at the v nominal cost of $15 (payable by edusave) for total of 8 weekly lesson and they due for the test at the end of the 8th lesson. -

My husband does not put me nor his mum first in the presence of dispute. He puts himself first and got both of us to sort it out ourselves if we love him enough to settle on middle ground. With that, he exercises both filial piety n his responsibility as husband as he decides-sides on a case by case scenerio, as he knows any decision made will likely have 1 side happy n one side sore. So we ie his mum n me, takes turns feeling sore lor depending on his decision.
Smart, very smart. JedaDad very smart. I have yet to meet someone who does it this way. Most husbands just stay miserably sandwiched between the two impt women. Until I read jedamum's post, I never thought there is another way out. But I shall not teach my hubby!

Anyway, I once heard something like: Our kids are our mirror image. They follow what we do.
Also, when our children get married, they will and should have their own family focus. As parents if we \"force\" ourselves into their world, it is not only unfair for our kids but also detrimental to their life development. It is hard to accept emotionally, as I also love my kids very much. But this is fact of life... Let's 顺其自然。 -
RE: DSA 2012
Fretting:
I think it depends which school your kid plans on applying to. For boys, places like RI, HCI, ACS, NUSH you will generally find the DSA is for the atheletes or the GEP boys, and for the GEP applicants, even then, it depends what their grades are, whether the primary school has been preparing them for DSA - i.e whether they have been attending competitions, taking on leadership roles, accumulating all the other things that will make their application look good. Blur me, when my DS applied last year, we realised so many things we hadn't done, and not sure why DS didn't know or we were not informed by pschool. So like taking part in competitions, getting at least 80% for p6 half year, having show piece project work , etc DS didn't have. We then found that his cohort of pschool, only a handful in GEP made it through DSA to some of the choice schools, compared with other schools where almost the whole GEP class got through. So its all about preparation for DSA. The whole expereince was nerve wrecking, and worse than applying for uni. Looking back, we wish we had known that we needed to prepare from as early as p4 (which is what other parents seemed to know). Then there is the disapointment of not getting into the school of choice during DSA, and accepting what is not your first choice, because you have a CO from that school. After PSLE they are cases of boys who regret having accepted the CO they are given even if its not their ideal choice, since they could have made it to their school of choice with their PSLE results. But by then, cannot change.marvic:
Hi, can anyone please enlighten me about DSA? What is the actual purpose of having this DSA while children still have to go through the PSLE? What are the pros and cons? And should it be a good thing to go ahead and apply for DSA? Is this only for P6 pupils?
Thanks in advance.
Hi thanks. So it seems like this DSA program is for the kids to have a better chance of getting into the school of their choice? I.e. academic results + other talents (e.g. music, sports) in which the particular schools are specialised in? Otherwise the kids would have to rely solely on PSLE results to gain entry into highly popular schools. Wonder if my understanding is correct? -

CactusInDesert:
Thanks for the link. I was about the same age as the eldest child then. Reading this, I just feel so angry. Why must they (the murderer(S)) do this to the children? And they are still at large?
You referring to this one? Think it is still unsolved.LOLMum:
No, not Adrian lim.
It was 2 siblings who were butchered brutally.
Some said cos parents owed $ and some said parents struck lottery and didn't want to lend $ to relatives or friends.
