1)The children ______(rise) early this morning.
2)I_____ (know) he wouldn't come on time.
Should we answer in present or past tense?
(1) rose. It should be in the past tense, as it was \"this morning\".
(2) knew. It should be in the past tense, as \"wouldn't (would not)\". -

Hi, I think it was marked half correct because in the question, the point of reference is \"What\" and \"from\". But in your DS's answer, his point of reference became \"Ali\"Hi I need an explanation of the following remarks in my DS 's comprehension:
Q. What disturbed Ali from his sleep?
DS's Ans: Ali was disturbed by the cry of a baby.
Reference Ans: A crying baby disturbed Ali from his sleep.
DS 's answer was marked as half correct; and the comments from his teacher is that his answer had the wrong point of reference. Could you please help me understand what is wrong with DS's answer?

thanks for your explanation. Just puzzling to me about the point of reference though; this is a question from a comprehension, is it not good enough if the answer conveys the right information? assuming the sentence is grammatically correct.
obviously, i need some help to further understand the point of reference, if you know of any article to read up on this subject, pls share with me. thanks. -
Hi, obviously the answer was not good enough and was only half correct. I am unable to explain in any better way though. However, I believe the teacher didn’t consider it good enough because it is directly linked to how well the student understood the question, thus the question about the point of reference. Sorry if I didn’t explain well enough.

Hi marvic,
no worries, you have been a great help already. -
Hi,
Anyone can advise whether this is correct?
Qns : Father likes this sofa better than that one.
Ans : Father prefers this sofa than that one. (Is this correct?) -
No, you should know that
Example
If you use rather, later you must use than,
if you use between, later you must use and
If you use from, later you must use to
To make it clearer,
…rather…than…
…between…and…
…from…to…
In the nutshell, you should not use than, but to as
…prefers…to -
The final answer is
father prefers this sofa to that sofa. -
