Thanks for your prompt response. but actually I prefer a female instructor. No offence but my hubby is actually that one who lays down such instruction. Anyway, I stay in between Tiong Bahru and Redhill. πŸ˜„

      Hello,

We were wondering if there is anyone can recommend a swimming coach/instructor who can come to our condo to give private swim lessons to my two children (age 11 - girl and age 6 - boy). Female instructor preferred.

      Thanks
      JT
Hello, I am looking for a swimming coach to teach my 2 girls at my condo pool as well. The elder one who is 7 years old already know how to swim breaststroke but the 5 year old is still a non-swimmer. Where do you stay? I have checked a couple of swim schools and the rates for private teaching for 2 is about $240-$300 per month. Kind of expensive when I am currently paying $60 per month for my elder girl. You can pm me.

    • RE: Getting Your Child to Practice Effectively

      jedamum:
      Agree with setting a routine.

Myboy now knows that home prac is 2x a day, once after breakfast or lunch n once after dinner. We have a designated corner of the living rm to place his keyboard n related music books. I borrow related stories to read to him. I try to learn with him n he takes pride that his sight Reading is better than me. πŸ˜“
but I find that once he works out the score n somewhat memorise it thru daily practises, his performance will drop as he'll just rush thru it based on memory without looking at the score.
Jedamum, I agree with your last sentence. My girl also started having this habit. I am a bit worried with her sight reading because she hates that and will try to memorise the song and play from memory. The rhythm maybe out too. She practises only once a day and the no. of times she practises on her piano decreases with the days to her lesson. eg, Mon-5x, Tue-4x, Wed-3x etc for all the songs. It's a method we used to encourage her to practise everyday when she first started out last year. But now that she is going for her Gr 1 exam, I am thinking of ways to encourage her to play more times. :scratchhead:

    • RE: 3rd Language for Your Child

I think Malay will be good if your child is to be a future politician because then he/she can address the crowd in Malay. My understanding is that the Malay used in Malaysia and Indonesia is slightly different and depending on the accents, may not be easily understood as well.

Anyway, I will let my children learn Spanish if there is a chance. The reason is because there are so many countries that uses Spanish and I think it’s not a very difficult language to learn. The Spanish speakers can also pick up Portuguese very easily and although not many countries use Portuguese, Brazil, one of the biggest countries uses it. The only downside is that because there are so few Spanish and Portuguese speakers in Singapore, if they were to ever go to the Latin America countries to work, it will be very difficult for them to come back Singapore anymore. Just like some of my colleagues there.

Hi, mongz. Glad you like the video πŸ˜„

I showed it to my 4 and 6 yr old girls. My 6 yr old cried after watching it. I guess the effect is good since she can read the words. I read the words to my 4 yr old and although she is quite affected as well, she was asking alot of \"not so relevant\" questions about why he was in so much pain and why he cried and why they all start at different starting line since they are racing...haha!

      drickymummy,

thanks for sharing on Dr Wong.

      Dear interested mummies,
Just an update on my girl visiting Herbal Basic. She saw Chen yi shi for the 4th time on Sunday and supposed to go for further treatment 3 times this week. We also queried about the package which will cost about $1400 for 3 months. We will get the nose spa machine and the herbal mix to steam for her 2 times a day. The package is actually cheaper in the long run but we are not very sure how effective if this treatment. After talking to my SIL whose son has been seeing a dr in EYS at Bt Batok, we decided to try EYS before deciding if we should cont to go Herbal.
Any idea if Foo Shern Fatt yi shi or Qi Xiao Yan yi shi at EYS is better?

      Hi Mongz,

Don't mind please share your experience at EYS, would like to know how EYS treat your girl's rhinitis, is it with oral medication or using external therapy? and how's their charges like?

      Thanks for sharing.

      Hello Felizbebe,
We bought my girl to EYS before CNY and she had this powder form of medication for 7 days (2 x a day). I think the dr was rushing. I didn't even get to finish telling her my daughter symptoms and all but I must say that her cough (which was due to her rhinitis) improved a little. Her nose is no longer itchy and she no longer made those funny faces to relief her itch. The dr said that she needs to go back to adjust her health because she looks kind of yellowish. However, because she is not longer coughing or having very bad nose prob, we didn't bring her back till 2 weeks ago. Again she was given some powder medication for 7 days (2 x a day). I also told the dr about her eczema and so the powder includes medication to improve her cough, running nose and also eczema. I didn't hear her complain about her skin itch which is honestly very surprising for me. I think EYS medication is working on her. it cost close to S$50 the 2nd time we visit. I can't remember the break down. I will look at the receipt and update you.

      New HPPS Mum:
Any parent here facing problem with your kids visiting the bookshop? My P1 son has been visiting the bookshop everyday and buying things which he do not need at all. He has not been using his pocket money to buy food but spent on buying unneccesary things(eg. small toy, erasers, cards, paper wallet, etc). Should I stop giving him pocket money?

I think you should find out why he is buying all the stuff. Is it peer pressure or he likes the stuff. The kids are given money to manage and they suddenly realise the power of it and may be a bit careless in the management. Besides cutting the allowance, it will be useful to share the value of money with him to encourage him to analyse what he will be missing if he mis-managed the money. Eg, if he saves his money, he can buy something better and bigger in the future.
My girl at P1 likes to buy snacks to share with her friends. If she doesn't buy, she feels that she won't be included in the sharing. But she started coughing so we are limiting her purchase to once a week. We will also start baking cookies so that she can bring and share with her friends. The money that she saves will be used to buy books that she gets to choose everyweek. She loves reading so she is excited about this arrangement.

Hi, would like to share this inspirational video on the youtube with all the mummies and daddies here. I watched this video during one of the motivational talks conducted for the kiddos by an external vendor when I was teaching at my ex-school. The video was on a former Olympic sprinter, Derek Redmond.

I was very touched when I watched how Derek Redmond persevered and completed the 400-metre race in the semi-finals of the Barcelona Olympic Games 1992 despite pulling his hamstring.

There will be times when we face obstacles or even failure in life. Do we give up? Or do we grit our teeth and persevere? It takes a lot of mental strength to continue the tough journey. Redmond is a true inspiration for all of us although I would not encourage anyone to run with a torn hamstring. Even in the face of failure, Redmond did not quit. He might not have won the race but in my eyes, he was a champion. He really showed us what pure grit and determination means.

The love and support from his father also serves as a reminder to parents that it is important to be always there for your kids even if they may not be doing well academically or in other aspects. Help your kids to move forward.

I can't remember who came in first. However, I can remember who came in last.

      Never give up.

P.S. Sorry. Tried to embed Youtube video but was not successful. Could someone enlighten me on how to embed Youtube video on the forum?
wow, it's really a nice clip. Thanks for sharing.

I understand that it may have started from boredom or even anxiety and most of the people who did so subconsciously. My nephew was recently being bullied in school, he is only 7 years old and he started doing that. Chewing on things subconsciously. Monitor and check if there is anything affecting her. If there is really anything, then need to cure that at the source
