      Hi parents,

Just to highlight my honest opinion of TAS..

At the begining of this year, I enrolled the weaker of my twin at both TAS Regular English class and another equally popular (or even more!) English enrichment centre (in the same building as Parkway). This was cause I was discouraged by his last year's English results. I had the spare cash (just being given a bonus) and had extra time on my hands so could enrol in both. Was confused and couldn't make up my mind so enrolled in both. My main intention was to try both for Term 1 and then drop the one that I felt was not suited for him while continuing with the other for Term 2 onwards...

It was obvious that towards the mid of Term 1 I knew 100% which one to drop and that was ironically TAS (as I presumed at first was TAS that I would continue with till the end of the year):

      Main Reasons
      1) The teacher was practically playing games in the class with them (while some may argue that this was a learning practice...but hello to spend $458 to play games every lesson, I think not) :stompfeet: :moneyflies:

      2) The emphasis was skewed towards comprehension - but its a regular class and I think all aspects of English should be covered; grammar, vocab, compo...but emphasis each lesson was comprehension and very little on other aspects of English.

      3) In addition, the standard of teaching is far inferior compared with the other centre. I am not sure how does TAS interview their teachers but their standards are not up to par. I believe that if you are teaching English, the least you can do is to speak proper grammatical sentence..I know it as I have talked to the teacher a couple of times after lessons and I feel appalled that she is my son's teacher.

      4) It is quite a havoc if you see TAS students when they go toilet or at the end of the lesson (that one I can put up with)...but this should not continue with this behaviour in the class. If this happens in the class, the teacher should managed it but no, sadly, the teacher cannot manage this. :stupid:

I was very surprised when another 1-2 of my son's frds in the same class are dropping off and going to the other English enrichment centre in the same building.

Thought that I would like to share. This is my opinion after being with them for 1 month. Maybe other locations like AMK are good as they are more established and being around longer...I am not sure. But one thing's for sure - I am switching to the other English enrichment centre . :xedfingers:
      Blessings

Wondering are you one of TAS direct competitor?

I would love to open an enrichment centre and earn lots of $$$$...especially at the rate Singapore parents take up extra classes 😂 :imcool:

As my boy is still taking the school bus now I did ask the bus operator if they have buses to sengkang area.. They jus said no.. Cos it's far and the fees are going to be ex.. I thought of transfering him to sengkang schools instead but I called all and all p2 for next yr all waiting list.. Not to mention the more famous ones which are all near my bto!!! So I am really hanging midway!! :stupid:

Hi, if you are thinking of transferring your child to P2 school in SK, you can consider the new schools there. I don't think they are full for current 2014 P1 batch. You can call them up and ask. There are 3 new ones which only have P1 & 2 classes for now; Sengkang Green, Springdale and Palm View.

Is there a reason why many parents are moving out their children out from Temasek Primary to other schools at the end of P1 to other schools in the East? :?
I heard from 2 of my friends that relocation is not due to parents moving away from the school so children would need to travel further distance to reach to the school should they remain there.

Are there any other issues that you know off?

Hi all, my DS has been able to transfer.out from current school and get into temasek primary considered a good school in the east. but my first preference was st stephens (as affiliated to SJI) and he is still waitlisted there...

not sure if i should still follow up with st stephens but if.they say yes...i would be really confused as both are good schools and would be ina dillemma.
any thots or piece of advise for me?

also if i dont call and say they call later in the year then i cant shift school again...

      sigh...really in a fix...

My first question to those parents who ask me this question is : is the transfer really necessary?
Why aren't you happy with the current school?
Please do not be swayed with \"good school\" or \"bad school\" label.

Cos the name of the school is not important but rather the teachers in the school are more important and also the attitude of your child. If you know your child is not motivated and needs pushing, a good school may not help. In fact, the child may feel demoralised.
On the contrary an average school maybe beneficial.

Personally, I know of 2 sets of my friends who had put their child in a particular neighborhood primary school in Katong. At the end of P1 both parents got news that they managed to get a transfer out.

The first set of parents, Y n Z, decided to transfer the child out to the more better nama school. The second set of parents, A n B, decided to stay put.

fast forward to PSLE - Y and Z son was a disappointment not only for his parents but according to the school standard - it was \"grossly unadequate\" according to the P. Reason was he was already demoralised due to the high standard of his friends and the fact that his parents had to push him to be on the same level as his friends.
When a child is in P2, P3 - it is fine for the parents to push.
Beyond P3 - the motivation must come from within the child and a mum and dad cannot be going behind the kid with a cane \"Study!Study!\" Also - teachers were not that dedicated - not willing to put beyond the necessary hours.

A n B son did much much better in PSLE (almost in top 10 of the school) cos the son was allowed to develop at his own pace. He was also a head perfect. Because it was a neighbourhood school, teachers were \"more driven\" to come up with better results so as to be on par with the better schools, so the dedication and effort (staying back after school hours, even giving extra lessons on Sat n Sun when they should be working) was much better.
A dedicated teacher = a dedicated student = Better student!

My own twins are in a neighbourhood school also in the East now. I am thankful they are there when i see my friends who have children in more \"branded schools\". Even my friends tell me that at the end of the day, its the attitude of the teachers and children who are more important than the name of the school.

Grass is always greener on the other side but until we go to the other side and feel the grass, we will never realise how much cow dung is in there. In that way, we would have been much better off at our present turf.
Hope you make a sensible decision. :xedfingers:

Hi one of my twin is a high achiever - I have 2 options to choose from; put 1 of my twin at TAS P3 level (even though he is P2 next year). Or put him in Mindstretcher HA classes. Both are admitting him.

Anyone who has experienced in both TAS n MS…which is better in English?
And how do they teach English?
