I’m trying to pick up knitting now!! Especially with my grandma to teach me : ) I have several shirts she’s knitted for me.

A day out is always nice! Southern Ridges, MacRitchie, Upper Seletar - and I think terrain is never too difficult in Singapore. And according to the playground exhibit at National Museum, Admiralty Park has 26 slides!!! The Pasir Ris Park playground is also huge and wonderful.

Neighbouring:

Kinabalu was great, and I can imagine it would be a great bonding experience for families too! It’s not super easy - not in terms of technical difficulty, but when you’re confronted with endless stairs, there is a particular mental zone you need to fall into.

NO HPs!!! or minimal use.


In my first year of uni when we had big dinners we would stack all our phones at one end to ensure maximum engagement. But that was a little spartan (also a little immature), but the principle stands. I think it’s super important to be present and intentional, and phones often get in the way of that : ) in terms of parent-child leading by example is best for sure!

I think Malay is very useful! Probably a little easier to learn than a pictographic language too. : ) A friend of mine just finished an introductory course on it and has high praise!

I think paid classes, with inspiring and skilled educators, can be quite worth the time and money too though : ) I’ve always wished there was a sampler of classes children could take… Like an exposure course. 1 week ballet, 1 week drums, 1 week piano, 1 week art, with the option to continue a particular track after a set amount of time sigh

Speaking from personal experience -

I think staying on campus makes for an incredibly rich university life! I stayed in UTown and thoroughly enjoyed it! You get the opportunity to be involved in a huge array of activities and start many of your own, and it's much easier to kickstart initiatives and ideas when you are staying together with your peers. The UTown programme is also more academic than Hall, because students there have to read four modules in the college over two years that are exclusive to the programme.

Would highly recommend it, though fees are a bit steeper than Hall because of the meal plan. http://utown.nus.edu.sg/apply/financial-aid-and-scholarships/!

Stories might also be a really good way to introduce children to the concept of death. Packaged in a nonthreatening, engaging, and perhaps even beautiful way - I think that’s how I was introduced to it? I never feared it, but saw it as part of a larger cycle and process.

^ It’s super heartening to hear the previous response : ) I fully agree that the youth need to be invested in, and have different strengths from the previous generations! I think it’s really important that youth be invested in, and more importantly, FEEL like they have been invested in. I can see that quite a few job structures are being modified to capitalise on these strengths - heightening and encouraging creativity and productivity, rather than work on the rote grind. We all have a place and a purpose!

Agree completely with what OP said - art is and should be for everyone! : ) am glad that our society is shifting towards one that is more accepting and inviting of the arts, and of the variegated and diverse viewpoints and perspectives it honours as a result.
