I have friends who seem extremely worried that the increased number of candidates in this Dragon year (versus no corresponding increase in places in secondary schools) will skew the cut off points significantly. What are yalls’ predictions?

Can consider taking an Accounting diploma & move onto year 2 in uni accounting.

The gap between A-levels & uni accounting modules was huge during my time in NUS Bizad. I could barely scraped through the later with a distinction in former + a total of 6 months of accounts clerk & IRAS taxation work experience prior to uni. :spank:

Money is a strong attraction, I'm sure. And not just banking - investments, fund management, actuarial science, etc. Lots of graduates with other disciplines gravitate there too - e.g. physics, engineering and maths grads end up in finance as their math ability is useful.

But back to the \"spark joy\" issue - not everyone wants to be in the financial world even if they can.

Would like to ask for opinions from experienced parents regarding uni course choice.
If child has no specific talent or interest but open to finance or career in financial industry, which course is more suitable? Is it finance, accounting (which one of the 3 uni is recommended/preferred, if should take 2nd major like data analytics), economics or a mix of the above (double degree kind)?

Is finance course in uni the same as business course? We see that studying finance in NUS leads to BBA degree, in NTU Bachelor of Business, and Bachelor of Business Mgmt in SMU (pls correct me if I’m wrong).
Anyone know has personal experience/know someone from those programmes and what do you think about the quality & employability? Are BBA from NUS is highly regarded in the financial industry?

Is accounting still a viable course to take, considering the vast advancement of AI? Pardon my ignorance, both parents are not from the industry thus not much knowledge about this. Many thanks in advance!

Most of my NUS BBA mates who majored in Finance are working in banks. Choose the major end of year 2.

Psychology - in order to get into clinical practice, it requires a Masters! Not that there are no jobs for someone who has studied psychology. He can consider areas that require understanding humans - HR, social services, user experience, marketing, linguistics, counselling, etc. For university studies, if he does well, he can go on to Pol Sci (his current interest) and pretty much anything other than hard sciences.

Yes, that's the predicament of Psychology.
A GEP relative opted for double degree in Psychology & Business after being rejected by Medicine, as she was unsure whether she would want to continue the clinical path after that. She didn't.

Thanks. Some ppl have advised us to choose combined science and get A1 for that, since not going Science stream anyway, just get the easy raw score. The problem, as u say, is he has eliminated POA and the coursework subjects (no interest). Anyway depending on overall score, he may simply get assigned to the leftover combis.

My older 2 went through pure (Chem & Physics) & combined sci (Chem/Bio) respectively.

If there is a choice (meet sch subject requirements), do consider for 2 pure sciences as it is still possible to strategically focus on the stronger one after prelims. Taking a combined sci needs to ensure the weaker sci does not pull down the stronger sci as both are 50% each.

As for diploma courses, there is still time to explore the various options but do start early as there are simply too many options in different polys.
