• RE: Foundation or Standard Chinese

      hersheys:
so means...best to stick to standard Chinese?

My son's school Chinese teacher just explained to me. Advised me to stick with Standard Chinese instead of Foundation Chinese even thought my son get lousy Chinese grades! Reason being PSLE has 4 subjects, total 300 marks, if take Foundation Chinese become loose 25 marks; i.e. total only 275; so even if those children are getting good grades in Foundation Chinese compared to Standard Chinese grades, but overall Standard Chinese grades still grade higher! So, I decided to remain Standard Chinese and hope for the best.

    • RE: Foundation or Standard Chinese
Can anyone advice me whether i should let my P5 son take foundation or standard chinese next year? His form teacher suggest he take foundation. He says it's better to pass foundation than to fail standard. But my worry is if he take foundation chinese, will he go Normal stream in sec school?

Hi there, understand that this might be an old posting. But I am in the same boat now. Can someone help to reply. Thank you.

Thank you for your prompt reply. I just spoken to my son's school Chinese HOD and a MOE staff. Both just said no matter drop Chinese, or take foundation Chinese it will not affect the PSLE score! And can still go any secondary schools except SAP schools. MOE just refuse to tell me more about it.

But I agreed what you mentioned above, the T-score will be different due to foundation Chinese and Standard Chinese scoring.

May I know where to find your essay on 《不知不觉爱上华文》? Thank you for your kind advise.

    • RE: All About Measuring Home-School Distance

This phrase from the newpaper reminds me the humilation I have been through as a parent volunteer earlier this year .

‘With regards to using inappropriate language (not only idiot, but other adjectives too, in front of the class or anywhere in the school, we advise both teachers and students to refrain from doing so.’

However, the phrase that the school use on me was a unforgettable and painful impact I decided to withdraw as parent volunteer. If I have a chance to publise I will but they ask me keep low profile for the school.

it is real personal encounter last week. Printed in the MOE’s hard copy. But only the computer stated that my house distance is within 1km after the clerk checked upon my request. Suggest KSP website can come with all school within 2km website too.

    • RE: AM or PM session is good for P1 students?

You are right. Cos the intake for P1 this year has reduced 30 no from each school till they can become single, those schools which cannot fill up the vacanies will then merge together with other primary schools. Make parents no choice but just go to those schools within 2km!!! As told by a VP from a primary school.

    • RE: [Ang Mo Kio] Primary Schools

have recently spoken to Teck Ghee Pri VP. He was former VP from Anderson and we chatted for almost 1hr! Very nice guy and impressive about his plan on changing the current school to a better standard. Will consider this school. School environment is nice too as it is just 6yr old in new premises. Unfortunately from website, the school has the least CCA compared to the rest of the schools in AMK area. And no student care.

I have recently encountered an incident regarding home to school distance. As this particular school left a few vacancies. So I have to be very careful to make sure that my house distance falls within 1km for Phase 2 Supp. When I went to the school, the admin girl said my house falls within 1 to 2km. I was disappointed and shocked as my house is just a few blocks away. I managed to find out the statelite distance online and shown that it is still within 1km, even paid for inlis to check the distance! So when I called up the school again the girl still said it is still within 1 to 2km until I told her that I have REAL answer. Finally she checked again and then admit that the MOE's hardcopy is printed wrongly. Parents, please be careful when enrolling your child for this coming Friday, Phase 2C Supp, esp those falls within 1km. Wish me luck too.
