Too bad. I sent my P3 kid to Learning Points for assessment test recently but was told he was not qualified for the class.

My son is in the best class in one of the top ranked primary schools, scored above 90% for all the subjects including English so far, and was happy himself with the 3-pages composition in the assessment. The result is, he is still not qualified for the class in Learning Point.

My conclusion is, if a kid is qualified, he/she is not necessarily going for any enrichment class at all. Or, if a kid doesn’t score A+ or 95% after the enrichment course, the parents should sue Learning Point for the "failure".

Hi! Surprisingly,my girl passes the test!!

Now choosing between LP & TAS…
Anyone can feedback on LP Bt timah branch,
                P2 sat 9am class??
                Is the teacher good?

Not able to afford trying both out…
So hope to get some advice here!
LP is more ex as is only 1.5hr…
But of course class size is smalle by 4students,
If compared to TAS max of 16
(But TAS may not b stretched to max,in the one I am offered)…

                Thanks Im advance!

Congrats…your son must b very good to pass the test. The assessment is conducted so that everyone starts at an equal footing…no more, no less.

I would choose LP for TAS for the main reason is that the class size is smaller n teacher can afford the little more individualized coaching. TAS teacher student ratio is very high n most times students get lost n overwhelmed cos of too big size class
Moreover I feel that teachers in LP are a more dedicated lot since smaller class they are able to give more feedback to parents vs TAS. Teacher quality better at LP.

Just to share my experience/opinion on assessment for entry to LP’s programme.

I believe all students need to sit for assessment, regardless of level/subject. But the assessment into the first level of any particular programme, is probably just a formality. Despite this, do take the test seriously as it may mean exemption from a certain number of lessons/terms.

I was keen to sign my kid up for Read for Success (the K1 programme, RFS) for 2013 and hence, as part of the requirement, my kid needed to undergo the assessment. Hearing the “high standard” of LP’s assessment and how many kids were turned away because “they were not there yet”, I was concerned since I did not know where my kid would stand in LP’s standard. The person in charge told me that all they required for RFS would be the kid needed to recognize and write all the letters in the alphabet, able to write his/her name and could understand simple instruction.

My kid went for the assessment and was exempted from a certain number of lessons (meaning he started the programme later than most kids but his enrolment had been confirmed).

Much has been said about LP being an enrichment center, not a tuition center. By this, I believe, it means LP requires all their students to have a certain level of proficiency in order to benefit from their programme. If I can use this as an example – the Chinese believes that the body must be healthy in order to benefit from tonics. If one is of ill-health, one should seek to get well first. Otherwise, all the tonics will be wasted because the body is not in the condition to receive.

my ds is in LP K2 English and Math. I like the way they teaches on the both subjects. For English, it really builds up their foundation such as subject, predicate, nouns etc before the child can write a complete sentence and to do the comprehension. I understand why LP needs to assess the child before enrols in the centre. The child needs to really know certain stuff before he/she can benefit from the programme. For K2 Math, teacher lena uses material aid to help in the child learning. so far so good.
