      socks:
you just cleared my doubt about why there are no EL textbooks/workbooks for P1 next year. Was about to email the school. On another note, the P1s' classrooms are apparently on the 4th floor. Do you have any advice on the type of school bags - haversack or trolley? Is the load generally heavy for P1?

      cheers
      Dear Socks,
There will be a parent workshop next year on the STELLAR programme which was being implemented in selected schools initially and slowly extended to more schools. I think by 2010, all primary schools will be adopting the STELLAR programme for their P1 and P2 English to compliment the SEEDS programme.

My advise is not to buy a trolley bag because they have to cliimb up the stairs. They are not supposed to take the lift. You need not buy a big bag because the students can keep the books at the classroom.

I hope your girl will enjoy her new school.
      Cheers!

That's why it's v risky for Phase 2C as by then shld be left with those unpopular school...but I wrote in for PV till now no reply from the Principal. I called the school and the admin told me the P v busy but confirm she gotten my letter...so no choice can only wait lor, but v sianz right.

          snowyqueen,

          Thanks for the advice.

          luvmum,

our backup schools include Zhenghua (which emphasises character building and has a vibrant school culture) and Bukit Timah Pri (in a relatively good neighbourhood).

                Hello Tri-mum,

My gal will be starting her P1 next year.....as a matter of fact she just had her orientation program last Tuesday. Yes.....classes there starts @ 8am. However, they can also come in as early as 7.40am and participate in pre-assembly activities....which I'm not quite sure what....but most probably reading. As for travelling time from CCK, that I'm unsure cos we stay in BP. I guess your gal must be prepared by 7am or maybe even earlier than that.

So any current parents of CHIJ can comment or feedback on the school's quest for acedamic excellance for their children? I saw that this year no one from the school managed to score an aggregate of >275 while last year's top PSLE scorer was 277. Not to imply that I am particular about it but just being curious cos looking at some of the results from some other schools seemed like they are consistently churning out top students yearly. :?

                  Hello funfastic04,

I read abt their PSLE results from the newsletter in their webpage. Hmm u r right that they are not really producing the cream of the crop but so is other CHIJ school. Mostly taken up by Raffles, Nanyang (this year top), Tao nan.... But I'm happy to see their high PSLE passes though. 😄

BTW can I check if you are staying within 2km from the school? Did you PV? I'm trying to gather infor as I write in to the school and din hear from them. Kinda sick chasing for a reply and as I stay within 1-2, I'd like to hear from other mummies if my chance is high. I still hv a yr to assess before it's my girl turn. :?

                  Hello Trimum,

Believed most of us are BP mummies, maybe you can call the school and check if they provide tpt for CCK...I think shld hv since not tat far away but guess she gonna wake up early though. But 8am start school oredy consider late. I used to leave home at 6.45am for work n oredy bus stop packed with kids...so actually CHIJ starting time is late. 😉

                    Hi Trimun,

Regarding your concern with travelling time, its best that you call up the school bus operator of the school and check with them directly. They will be able to furnish you with estimated pick up time and maybe even the fees.

                    😎

Thank you for all your replies. Guess I have to wait till school re-open next year then I can contact the office. Actually my first choice is De La Salle since it is within 2km but this school is popular among the CCK neighbourhood and every year have to ballot. My sister who stayed within 1km wanted to register my nephew there back in 1999 & 2001 and was told to forget it coz even within 1 km need to ballot 😢 I've called CHIJ end Aug to be PV for next year registration but they said too late as they have enough PV so mummies who want to be PV for 2010 registration better call earlier.

                      Hello Funfantastic4 mummy,
Pls give me feedback about the school next year ok? 🙂 . I've heard good comment about the school - teachers are caring and motivate students in character building.

Hello Tri-mum…will definitely give u feedback as soon as I have some. As for the distance of our home to the school, we just made the 2km mark…to be exact…we were just b4 the 2km border. Thank goodness since this year those within 1-2km didn’t hv to ballot. So my guess is if u are within 1-2km…shouldn’t be an issue unless next year’s is a baby boom year…then u may hv a problem.
