Thank you for all your replies. Guess I have to wait till school re-open next year then I can contact the office. Actually my first choice is De La Salle since it is within 2km but this school is popular among the CCK neighbourhood and every year have to ballot. My sister who stayed within 1km wanted to register my nephew there back in 1999 & 2001 and was told to forget it coz even within 1 km need to ballot 😢 I've called CHIJ end Aug to be PV for next year registration but they said too late as they have enough PV so mummies who want to be PV for 2010 registration better call earlier.

      Hello Funfantastic4 mummy,
Pls give me feedback about the school next year ok? 🙂 . I've heard good comment about the school - teachers are caring and motivate students in character building.

Hello Tri-mum…will definitely give u feedback as soon as I have some. As for the distance of our home to the school, we just made the 2km mark…to be exact…we were just b4 the 2km border. Thank goodness since this year those within 1-2km didn’t hv to ballot. So my guess is if u are within 1-2km…shouldn’t be an issue unless next year’s is a baby boom year…then u may hv a problem.

Hello Funfantastic4, good for you and will wait for your feedback. I definitely fall outside the 2km...just hope that there will be no balloting for next year registration because 2003 birth rate is pretty low:?: :!: If I remember correctly, the staff told me less than 10 did not get into the school for phase 2c balloting. I'm always too relax for p1 registration until recently started to do some research and realize most of my choices have history of balloting 😢

          Really headache.

            Hi snowyqueen,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with me, and haha… as well as the rest.
After reading all the posts, I’m quite sure that the school is suitable for my DD. She is somehow, like your daughter. My DD is very shy and lacks confidence. Finding a school with a good caring environment is my main motivation.

My greatest fear is that I do not stay with the 2km proximity, and I may not even stand a chance, as we cannot predict if there will be any balloting for <2km. I’m currently residing in Jurong West, and the nearest IJ is actually QLP. I did not consider other schools as I prefer to enrol her in a single-gender school.

I met up with the principal, but sad to hear that I’ve missed the PV deadline, which left me with nothing. And yes, you are right, the students were really well-behaved and well mannered. They greeted me, even when I’m a total stranger to them.

Still feeling abit lost now… but I guess I will have to deal with it, when the time comes.

Anyway, thanks for sharing your experiences with me.

              Hi

I am a newbie… I noticed from the threads that there is no mention of St. Nicholas. Is there any comments regarding that school? Is it easy to get into that school?

I think there are little comments because St Nic's has already gotten everyone's mindshare that it is one of the top schools in Singapore. Just look at the poll at the top of this thread. And if you want to see how it compares with other schools in Ang Mo Kio, try http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=415.

It is difficult to get into St. Nicholas if you stay beyond 1km of that school. In the past few years, the over-subscription rate of applicants to places in BOTH Phase 2B and Phase 2C is nearly 2 to 1, and balloting is only available for those living within 1km. This means that even if you stay within 1km of St Nicholas, and you do PV for the school to get to register in Phase 2B, you still only stand about 60% chance of getting into the school.

that's why i decided not to even try shifting house to within 1 km of St Nic's. Do the other CHIJ primary schools have affiliation to St Nic Sec or it;s just St Nic's Pri School?

Actually, I'm always a little puzzled when my friends tell me that St Nicholas is a top girls' school. It's my alma-mater and while it was a pretty decent school in my time (my PSLE score was 274, and there were hordes of girls with scores in that range) , imho its academic standards has declined quite a bit since then. If I were concerned about academic achievement only, I may not want to send my daughter there 😉 But I know that most parents are not that shallow!

Besides St. Nic, is there any other "full" girls school in CHIJ family? is CHIJ toa payoh good?
