      The flock of birds _________ chirping loudly on the window ledge now.

      1) is 2) are 3) was 4) were

      My DD chose ‘is’. I also think it should be ‘is’. Could someone confirm this? TIA!

        Yes!

        The birds are / were chirping.
        The flock of birds is / was chirping.
        Subject [descriptive modifier] verb in agreement with subject.

                      The principal is going to speak at the conference. so (3) is speaking is right.

                        A simple way is to ask yourself if the answer would be "he" or him."


                        Who/Whom ate my breakfast?
                        He ate my breakfast, therefore "who" is correct.

                        For who/whom should I vote?
                        I should vote for him, therefore "whom" is correct.
