I think we can't base on birth rates anymore as there are so many PRs around us nowadays!!!

There are many PRs now, and some have converted to S’pore Citizens. For those who stay as PRs, the govt has introduced the 2 balloting slips to give us a better chance should balloting occur but if PRs convert to SC, then afraid to say we have to compete with them.

The sch places drop by abt 5000 as compared to Year 2008? I assume cos' some schs had converted to single session? Imagine 2016 when ALL schs are converted to single session...
And birth rate for 2013 onwards keeps going up...
And more parents are better-informed in opting for \"popular\" schs... although there's always plenty places for \"less popular\" schs...

            Welcome to the real world...

Yup, my colleague (a P.R.) just converted to S.C. for ease of biz travel. My DD's childcare had a parent who is considering converting to S.C. too. She admitted buying a hse near Maha Bodhi and may consider converting if the competition is getting hotter.

I can sure feel the pressure of more S.C. 😛

Schools are moving single session and cutting down intake + more PRs are converting to SC. We don’t need more births to heat up the way things are.

Someone mentioned that not so long ago, even citizens staying in Pulau Ubin can register at RGPS & those staying within 1km of Pei Hwa can definitely get in. This is not the same story now.

all i can say is good luck to the next batch of dragon babies… likely to have a spike in birth rates, and in the meantime school places will shrink to all time low from just one session…

I've a friend who has been a PR for years and converted this year for her girl's P1 registration. Her girl managed to get into the school after phase 2c ballot.

Govt gave \"priority\" to citizens over PR when it comes to P1 registration. However, it seems that it's not that difficult for PR to convert to SC at the sametime. My feel is that the pool of SC just got bigger that's all.

I agree that there is gonna be a bigger pool of SC. This is what happen to my DD's childcare. A Chinese PR told me she will convert when the time comes for her DD (next yr's registration).

Sigh....gd luck to those of us who still have kids not due for registration yet. Both my DDs are safe for now. But they are in a girls sch. When it's my DS turn, not sure if I even stand a chance at a popular neighbourhood sch.

My kids are already in primary school (the school that your PR colleague is interested in). My kids got in under 2A1. I always tell my hubby to count our blessings that P1 registration was a breeze for us despite that I had thoughts about registering them in TNS or HIPS (since we've property within 1km of those schools). He even thought of Rosyth (1-2km for us). I told him he can try to be a PV and since he don't have such determination then don't even think about it. I've a K1 who is registering next year and now it's become a no brainer that we should let her join the school under phase 1. Then sit back and relax.

But I am monitoring the P1 registration very closely for friends who are registering next year. Have been urging friends to plan early and strategise so that they increase their chances. Importantly, choose a school that is of reasonable standard and they stand a good chance. It must be very nerve wrecking for parents who have to go through the balloting.

This year we see/ hear at least 3 friends around us who didn't get what they want at phase 2B, followed by 2C. In the end, they have to go to their backup plan. In fact, for 1 of them, we are not sure if they mge to their their backup school under P2C supplementary. It must be such a stressful process for them.
