My son is very good in Maths and often score full marks. He's going to P5 next year. I am interested to sign him up for the Maths Olympiad course as well at the end of his P5. Please give me some feedback on the course.
My son got into the 1st round of GEP as well, he is brilliant in Science averaging above 95. He scores distinction and high distinction for Maths and Science respectively for NSW this year. I would very much like him to get into NUSH cos I think he has the potential and interest.
I keen to find out more abt the DSA program as well. Pls keep me posted if you further info. -
Hi PowerPuff Mum
As the Maths Olympiad course he is chosen by the school and they have external teacher to teacher. According to my boy they teach the different way of solving more different questions and not teach in the class. For P5, if they are in the Maths Olympiad course they will represent the school to NUSH for competition and in P6 will go to Hwa Chong for competition.
Every term his Maths Olympiad teacher will make them sit a exam and they fail, they will be drop out.
Basically, the questions he show us, we are unable to solve. You may check with your boy school whether thay have Maths Olympiad course in the school.

Not all schools engage external instructors for Maths Olympiad class. If the vendor comes into the school to teach, they charge just a fraction of the fees if you were to do it outside as an enrichment.Hi PowerPuff Mum

For our school, the Maths Olympiad preparation starts at P4. Not really selected but the top 2 classes are encourage to sign up. They can participate in the NUS High Maths Olympiad Competition in P4 and P5. And then in P5, APMOS (Asia Pacific Maths Olympiad) and P6, Hwa Chong Maths Olympiad and RI World Maths (this is for selected pupils in our school) . -
I think every school have different way of running the programme.
Yes, for my boy school is select students only and every term the students will sit an exam those who didn’t do well will not continuous the next term and the better students will be under the best teacher.
Yes his school also start the Maths Olympiad preparation at P4. They also participate in the NUS High Maths Olympiad Competition in P4 and P5. And then in P5, APMOS (Asia Pacific Maths Olympiad) and P6, Hwa Chong Maths Olympiad and RI World Maths -

This is stated in the NUSH website for PSLE applicants:
Selection Criteria
-Shortlisting of applicants will be solely based on the PSLE performance.
-Applicants with aggregate score of 250 above with A* in both Math and Science are encouraged to apply.
-Do take note that the aggregate range of 2007 PSLE pupils posted to 2008 secondary 1 is 262-277. -
