Meanwhile for my P2, he completed from intermediate to advanced and IMO has strong phonics background as compared to my P3.buds:

My K1 is currently doing intermediate. She started in mid of last year (nursery) (earliest time she can start as she is nov baby). I think they go by birth month of the child rather than level. Knows all sounds of letters and they are starting with the blending this term. I am continuing her as I believe besides those sight words, having strong phonics focus will help her to read and spell with ease.
J&E phonics is just phonics focus. Very solid teaching though it might be \"slow\" as the kids typically complete the entire program (advanced level) around K2. Also note that it is 100% phonics focus, it does not cover other aspect of english learning. So if you are depending on this program only to prepare the child for P1, I feel that it is insufficient. Eg. It does not emphasize on grammar, proper sentences,etc... To compliment with that, I am actually sending my K1 to LW english program. Just started this year and I find it a good compliment to J&E learning. -
Sorry just to add… I did put my P3 through their P1 english classes before but actually stopped as don’t really see the impact unlike their phonics program.
My kids are currently with BC. This is the 2nd year after moving from J&E.
But think they’ve re-structured their program to have better focus. The centre mgr has been asking me to consider but we are happy with BC at this point and signed up for full year prog so will stay put. -

Had anyone started the I Creative Learner (ICR) at the West Coast branch? Can share how good is the teacher at West Coast?
Heard the program would take 3 years from Age 4 to 6 before the kid entering Primary 1. -

I'm interested to enrol my boy, K1 this year, to I Can Read Choa Chu Kang, after reading so many good reviews about the center. My boy knows all his letter sounds but was still assessed to go to the Thinking & Creative Skills. The teacher said if my boy could satisfy the 2 criteria namely: able to go into the class alone without crying and know all the letter sounds, he will be able to promote to the next stage - Preliminary Reading Skills (PRS), which will probably take about 3 months. Now my boy doesn't cry when I send him to childcare or enrichment classes. So, I wonder why they wants him to start all over again on the letter sounds.. :? I'm not sure if I can request if my boy can go directly to PRS....
Any parents that send that children to I Can Read, can I just ask when they promote your child/children to the next stage (Preliminary Reading Skills), can your child cope? Cos I know that the class is always on-going. So, will it be disruptive whenever a new student suddenly joined the class?? -

Hi,
My daughter join their K1 crash class at West Coast last year Jul and now she's a confident reader.
They have completed the basic sounds and currently they do blending and listening. Every week they do sight reading and every week, the teacher will get the children to bring back a story book to read. For K2 class, they are also given a phonics storybook to bring back home to read too. My daughter loves to read and she even try to read my son's P4 text books. She enjoy her class there and she always tell me she loves to attend the class because they get to play games in class too. The class size is small. For weaker students, after class, the teacher will advise the parent on their child's weakness and how to prepare their child at home, so he/she will not fall behind.
To me, the course is moneyworth and economical. My daughter crash class slightly more expensive, $290/eight lesson Normal class is cheaper but I'm not sure of the price. Heard is $220 or $250/ eight lessons.
For West Coast, they accept children from 2 and half yo to K2. -

My girl (3.5yrs old) is in I Can Read and going to be promoted to Thinking & Creative Skills in 2 weeks. I enrolled her in ICL cos of good feedbacks but wondering should she stay put in I Can Read since she is doing fine?
