Thanks, zinc6539. I will bring my kid to the funfair, hopefully can motivate her to study for psle. With the cop getting higher each year, it is getting more and more difficult to get into the school.

Eventhough is a SAP school but their ‘O’ level is not impressive. They are not even Band 1 school. Quite sad to say that.

I thought of sending girl to this school even girl says is not even Band 1 and very Chinese. She is not keen eventhough is within Sengkang.

That's very true. I won't have my children studying that school, oh please!!!
Imagine when your relative or friends asked you what school your child from? You can imagine their expression when they heard wrongly or mispronounce wrongly.

If given both our English speaking Local actors like Gurmit Singh & Chua En Lai to read out the school name loudly, it can be an embarrassment.
            From \"Nan Chiau\" to \"Lan Jxxx\".
            Give a thought about it......

Even if you don’t like the school or the school name, there is no need for crude remarks or make fun of the school name in a public forum. Totally uncalled for.

The school was designated as a SAP school from January 2012.
Their first batch of students under the SAP is still in Sec 3.
Give them some space to grow?

I came from a SAP school and the characteristic of a SAP school is its emphasis on 双语文化. So it tends to be 'very chinese'.
But, it is a good influence on the learning of the language.

                    Totally agreed with BlueBells.

南侨中学 was founded by Tan Kah Kee in year 1947. It is an established school with a long history.
Tan Kah Kee, a philanthropist, set up Chinese High School (now HCI) too.

A friend said that the Sec 4 CL pupils did quite well in the Jun/Jul O level CL exam when the result was released recently. 40% of the cohort scored at least an A2.

(Sec 3 HCL pupils had taken their oral exam but not the written exam yet which would be in Nov).
What puzzled her was that her DD obtained an A2 with merit in oral and yet the school makes it compulsory for her to retake CL in this Nov O level exam.
From her understanding from CL teachers in other schools, it is very difficult to get an A1 without a distinction in oral. Can anyone verify this?
CL oral can only be taken once in a year. Written exam can have two attempts though.
If what other school teachers said is true, the pupils should be encouraged to channel their energy to get better grades for other subjects instead of wasting time to study and retake the CL exam, in my opinion.

Any parents here know if the school has ‘study-break’ for the sec fours to catch up with whatever they are lagging on their own?

I know that many schools have such a break.
