Follow your heart !
Aw ;\"D Yes I will (my heart lies in RI but I'm not sure if I would get in for sure :-() I'm wondering if placing HC as my second choice would hamper my chances of getting into VJ? Or is it still alright?
So how should I place my second choice? HC or VJ?xiaopeng:

Put RI as your first choice. Be prepared to appeal if not alloted. JAE exercise is computerized. School only look at your appeal or application subsequently if not alloted and you still want it.
Thanks so much for your help! -

Will it affect getting scholarship then?Eldest Daughter:
I got a C5 for HMT :yikes: but plan to enter yllsom, will this C5 then affect my chances of getting in and will this also cause me to be prejudiced against people who score better than me in HMT but score the same with me in the other subjects for A levels?
HMT score doesn't matter much in your application to yllsom. What's more important is how you do in the interviews once you've made it to that round. -

A hybrid combi falls under Science stream, so be sure to put Science and not Arts stream as your choice.Hello! I have a net l1r5 of 8 after deducting 2points (cca). (Not as good as the others in the thread but...)I am deciding between nyjc and catholic . I want to put nyjc as my first choice but I'm 1 mark higher than the cop for science (7) and just at the cut off point for the arts course (8)
for o level, I took combined science (phy, chem) , though I manage to score an a1, I believe it will be difficult to have 2 h2 science subjects.
These are the subjects I took in o lvl:
Eng(b3)
combined humanities(a2)
Combined science (phy,chem) (a1)
Maths (a1)
Amaths (a2)
Chinese (a1)
Pure geography (a2)
I want to do a hybrid subject combi in Jc and I heard that nyjc is very flexible with hybrid subjects combi: one h2 science , h2 maths , h2 geo/economics and h1: still not sure yet..
So when I'm doing the jae exercise, do I put both art and science for nyjc as my first two choice and then catholic Jc? -
Anyone know how H1 Chinese grade will be used ? Is it considered as one H1 subject and also contribute to UAS?

The cost of the dinner was definitely more than $1. The $1 was collected to give an indication as to the number of students who were having dinner, so the organizers could plan future dinners even better. I'm surprised your dd managed to eat the leftovers. The dinners are usually so popular there isn't any leftovers.
Yes yes .... dd told me the food was super nice. Very high class food. Worth more than $1. She and friends ate the leftovers for free.zeemimi:

I hear from ds that RJ even has something called Mega Mugging Madness.. a few weeks before A levels..
Students staying back in school to mug late can get a good dinner at $1 (?), organized by the wonderful PVs..

The ambience in the school during the weeks before A levels is very supportive with students coming together to study, parents giving support through activities like this and lots of encouragement from the Year 5s to the Year 6s.
Hmm.. jtoh knows quite alot about the MMM.. you must be one of the wonderful PVs! :please: -

Anyone know how H1 Chinese grade will be used ? Is it considered as one H1 subject and also contribute to UAS?
UAS is calculated based on 3H2s, GP, PW & 1 content H1. MT doesn't count into the calculation. But if your MT score helps to pull up your overall UAS it will be counted. -

i also heard H2 Further Maths will be reintroduced in 2016. Further math (9234) used to include the following which are not in h2 math:zeemimi:
Current H2 math is already overlapping some of the content of F math of many moons ago.
pardon my ignorance ... can Current A level students take F Maths, as a separate H2 or H1 subject, by itself ?
1. sum and product of roots of polynomials of degree 3 and 4
2. Polar coordinates
3. Mathematical induction on divisibility
4. Integration to find mean values and centroids, arc lengths, surface areas
5. 2nd order differential equations (currently under MOE H3 math)
6. Complex numbers: Using de Movire's theorem to find trigo identities such as cos 5x
7. Vectors: Shortest distance between 2 skew lines
8. Matrices and linear spaces (under NTU or NUS H3 module)
9. Mechanics
10. Statistics such as 2 sample testing, non parametric testing
If H2 further math is reintroduced, H2 math paper is likely to be easier as tough questions shift to further math, just like the old days with Math C and Further Math
Having two H2 maths subjects are good for students with strong maths ability. Able to get A in H2 Further Math is guarantee A for H2 Math. -

But if both RI and HC both cannot get in, is there a chance of skipping VJ even though he/she can meet VJ cut off and ending up in 4th 5th or 6th choice? Anyone knows? :scratchhead: -

Yes that is my concern! I heard that if you want to get into HC you have to place its institution as #1 or the chances are low. Then again, I heard that there are cases in which the student gets rejected in HC but accepted into RI and vice versa.
I'm just afraid that the scenario you just described would happen >__< -
Yesterday at RI Open house, someone asked -
"Suppose I have 3 point, my friend also 3 point. But the sequence & order of JCs selected / chosen by my friend and I are different. Then, who will get into RI, admitted first ?"
reply was that -
inside the MOE computerized system, although both got 3 point, but internally, both are never the same, because all students are ranked by Moe. moe keep track of the ranking of JAE students.
He said that because all JAE students have already been ranked by computer internally, no 2 students will ever end up with the same ranking. One will be higher than the other student.
The lecturer at RI replied that the one with the higher 3 point will get in first, compared to the one with the lower 3 point, if still got vacancies.
He further added that if the higher 3 point student cannot get into RI, then Moe will clear him first, because his 3 point is higher than the other student, that is, look at what is his 2nd choice JC #2, clear him first, before come to look into the other student with the lower 3 point.
Then that student asked, "How come my friend and I both same, have 3 points. But why internally, Moe computer rank us differently ? "
RI lecturer replied that -
for example : maybe one student got 90 marks for H2 Maths, while the other student got 78 marks. So the one that got 90 marks, end up with 3 points, is ranked higher by computer. He said Moe computer keep track of all the marks of JAE students.
