      Hi, dear all,

Have been reading your thread. My son is 7 years old - weight 12 kg and height is 120 cm. consider his height, he is really skinny.
Am now wondering shld i bring him to see doctor to see what is the problem, is there any good pedatretian you could recommend?
... anyway, he has not been gaining weight since dec...11 and abit worried.
though he eats 3 meals a day -
2 rice meal with pork and egg...chicken, breakfats he eats bread with milo and b4 sleep, he drinks mamil milk. but he does not seem to have any weigh gain. am now thinking is it becos of tapeworm... how to detect tapeworm or can my son juz take the medicine from the pharmacy.... any side effects.

      thanks for your advice

You can just buy from the pharmacy. For kids, they get this thick white milky syrup to take in 1 dose. for adults, got tablet. also 1 dose. According to the pharmacist, humans constantly ingests parasitic eggs which hatch in the gut. (they're more worried about the eggs since the worms will not survive the digestive stomach juices.) So it's a good idea for everyone in the same household to 'de-worm' together once a year or so.. then, if you see worms in the stool, take 1 more dose.. but if there aren't any, you're good til next year.. I don't think anyone will be extracting worms by pulling them from throat or anus.. since extract 1, but still got many inside also useless. and the itchy backside thing, is cos when humans lay down to sleep, the worms will lay eggs near the anus and the stuff to 'stick' the eggs will cause the anus to itch. So the kid will scratch and it will cause the eggs to be picked up under the nails, and when kids eat something without washing hands, it goes back in thru the mouth and starts the vicious cycle... disgusting stuff but veyr treatable..

But to increase appetite, I feed my son appeton(?) with lysine, said to increase appetite. and yes, picky eaters consistently 'forget' to eat. Have to keep reminding them and offering food to them.

Has she seen a doctor to rule out underlying conditions, eg worms, aneroxia or genetics of being naturally skinny.

I gave my kids codyceps when there were classified as severely underweight and their appetites seemed to improved. Also gave them peanut soup.

DD filled up when she hit her teenage years and though she is technically underweight, 45kg for 164cm, she does not look it so I just leave it.

DS is sub 30kg for 14x cm. Giving him de-worming medicine from the pharmacy periodically cos he does complain of worms sometimes.

How to check for worms? She is eating normally though. The cordycep is powered form or capsules?

              Thanks

My girl can eat a normal serving of chicken rice with vegetables and a serving of yong tau fu (7 pieces) for dinner while my son eats 2 chicken rice at recess. But both are classified as underweight and at one stage, severely underweight even.

My son does complain of itchiness and wriggling so I guess he has worms. Not so for my girl.

I am underweight so the doctors have put it down to genetics. They were underweight since toddlers so this had been discussed over the years.

Am less concerned now after I see how my girl bulked up the last 2 years or so.

My cordeceps is in the worm form. Double boiled with lean pork.

Does your niece in poor health? Maybe it is just her having a very high metabolic rate or very efficient digestive system?

my daughter at 10+ is underweight…she is short too, like me.

the doctor recommends she eats more high protein food, rice (carbohydrates) and milk…basically stuff we adults are afraid to eat because of putting on weight.

True. I see a little bit of weight gain if they can drink 2 glasses of full cream milk daily. Weight maintenance if 1 glass and sometimes weight loss if none.

Having adequate sleep is also important.
