      Jay and Lak were given an equal amount of money by their parents.

      After Jay spent $24 and Lak spent $12, Lak had 4 times as much as Jay had left. How much was each of them given at first? Pls help to solve using models … TIA

          Hi, I need help in these 2 qns

          1) Ann spent $5850 on some bags and wallets. She bought 5 times as many bags as wallets. She paid $4400 more for bags than wallets. Each bag cost $60 more than a wallet. Find the cost of one wallet.

          2)Eileen gets $2 more allowance than Mabel each week. Each girl spends $21 per week and saves the rest. When Eileen saves $72, Mabel only saves $48. How much allowance does Mabel get each week?

          Thanks in advance

            Dear Amberzbon

            1) Ann spent $5850 on some bags and wallets. She bought 5 times as many bags as wallets. She paid $4400 more for bags than wallets. Each bag cost $60 more than a wallet. Find the cost of one wallet.

            b [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] + difference ** (b + w = 5850)
            w [ ]

            4u + difference = 4400
            6u + difference = 5850, 2u = 5850 - 4400 = 1450
            1u = 725

            4u (bag) + difference = 4400
            difference = 4400 - (4x725) = 1500

            no. of bags = 1500 divide 60 = 25
            therefore, no. of wallets –> 25 divide 5 = 5

            5 wallets cost $725, 1 wallet therefore cost $145

              If Eileen get $2 more allowance than Mabel each week, Eileen's weekly saving will be more than Mabel's weekly saving by $2.

              E: [Spent=$21][Saving][$2]
              M: [Spent=$21][Saving]

              Difference in total savings
              $72-$48 = $24

              Eileen saves $2 more in 1 week and to save $24 more, it will take 24/2 = 12 weeks.

              To save $48, Mabel will also need 12 weeks.
              In 1 week, Mabel saves $48/12 = $4

              Weekly allowance for Mabel = Spent+saving = $(21+4) = $25

                Can someone help me with the following P3 Math problem sum? Many thanks in advance.

                Bob has thrice as many buttons as Ali. Ali has 179 buttons lesser then Carlos. Carlos has 228 buttons more than Ali and Bob. How many buttons do the three boys have altogether?

                  Hi,

                  Think there's something wrong with your Qn. How can Carlos have 179 buttons more than Ali when the next sentence says that Carlos has 228 more buttons than Ali and Bob?

                    Hi wahwah, I think the question is a little wrong as, when I try to work it out, I keep getting thhat 1 unit is equal to 4 units + 48. Could you please get back to us on this? Thanks!

                      Hi Muffins and Dharma,

                      Thanks for trying out the question. That was the question on my son’s holiday assignment paper. Will have to wait for the new term to verify with the teacher. Will update again.
